Which is greater, the Bible or the Church? Which takes precedence?

Neither takes precedence... Both are equally Salvific.

Without the Church, the Bible is a loaded handgun in a room full of children, without the Bible, the Church is devoid of instruction. The Bible is the manual on obtaining eternal Salvation, the Church is the teacher and guardian that ensures that the Faith in the Bible is correct, unchanged, and properly passed on. One cannot properly exist with the other.

That feels a little disingenuous. I believe Catholics believe that they are living under the Bible, but the Bible is what the Pope says it is. The Church has final say and they can add things in like Purgatory and papal infallibility. The Doctrine on Mary is another example where Catholic scholars came up with a doctrine that is simply not in the Bible. Church tradition is considered equal to scripture. That suggests the Church is considered the master of the Bible rather than the Bible being master of the Church.

As a Protestant, my focus is on Christ alone for Salvation, not Christ and the Church as equal partners. My Salvation is not dependent on the Church.

We will probably just have to agree to disagree.
