OLED and AMOLED screen burn

submitted by Conspirologist to technology 8 monthsSep 3, 2024 10:21:55 ago (+2/-1)     (technology)

I've learned that OLED and AMOLED screens have screen burn effect after viewing static images. Only IPS screens are immune.

Can anybody who uses smartphones with OLED and AMOLED screen tell if this is a serious problem, or if these screens get damaged only after long time of static images exposure.

Guess my digital signs will be IPS screens. They've gotten more affordable since I bought mine a decade ago.

Is the power consumption difference noticeable?

I don't care about power, as long as my IPS doesn't get screwed like AMOLED does.

I think your best bet would be to ask this question to @greensaint.

He spends hours trolling through pics on his phone.

You'll probably get a new device before it becomes noticeable.

It can be yes. As far as TVs are concerned most have built in screen savers that cycle images to help mitigate it.
