Went out to a wonderful dinner party with much of the family. Some had brought familiar friends along. One of them was a troubled gal; a generally sweet and kind girl but badly troubled. The older folks were happy to inquire about her work and pursuits and politely listen without interrupting or making any effort to rebuke or challenge anything she had to say. She wasn’t in good spirits, all things considered, and there was every effort made to listen and let her speak. As her topics of discussion inevitably became polarizing, the group was quick to redirect her countless times.

My meal was the usual pile of meat with vegetables. I thought nothing of it until this gal ordered a vegetarian plate making an active effort to announce to the table her desire to avoid meat whenever possible. “Great.” I thought to myself: “Her mental health is already on the decline and now she’s living on a diet of processed garbage.” Still, I made sure to shut the fuck up about it.

She had recently traveled. So I got to hear that story of all the fun lonely stuff she did while overseas. At least my meal was good. There’s nothing I detest more than hearing anyone discuss their travels.

When the subject of class issues came up, she began to get emotional. Really bumming us all out. The polite and respectful grandparents then changed the subject of discussion, asking about her plans for the future, having now returned. I heard the typical rhetoric: “Having seen other countries, I cannot wait to get out of the United States.” I could not help but grin as I looked at everyone else around the table returning to me that very same facial expression that read: “This bitch…”

This continued on and on. Before long, the subject of the inner city negro population came up. Oh, those poor fucking negros. There was mention of men controlling society with women being under-represented. No surprise there. The damn girl began getting so heated and emotional, and we all looked at each other like she was a damn idiot. Still, we listened and let her vent because she is unwell.

What a shame. This is an example of a girl who does not maintain her life. Everything about her is in shambles. She is so damn receptive to troubles of other cultures and media that they become intertwined into her mind as if they are her own. What’s the old saying: If you don’t stand for something, you fall for everything. I mean, here we are with a large table full of working class successful altruistic people: retired professionals, business owners, educated types. And all possible discussion of our hopes, dreams, pursuits, and projects were bogged down by one whiny social justice warrior.

I did not engage her bullshit the entire night until the very last second when she noticed I had brought my own unrefined sea salt to the dinner. She then began to preach to me that salt is bad for blood pressure. For a few seconds, I went off on her: explaining electrolytes are vital for nearly every chemical reaction in the body and that if she wants to understand the importance of salt - and how quickly our bodies go through it, then she should try fasting for several days and watch her head aches be immediately cured with salt.

I stopped myself. Me and old people then starting licking salt off our palms as she watched. The family will see to it that she is not welcomed to dinner again. At least not until she can get her shit together and discuss actual topics of which she is in control of.
