Jootube fucking with ad blockers again?

submitted by PoundOfFlesh to whatever 8 monthsAug 27, 2024 18:21:06 ago (+8/-0)     (whatever)

I'm using Firefox w/ uBlock Origin and since today loading jootube causes browser slowdowns and CPU usage spikes. Some redditards are experiencing the same issues.

https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/1f2nuhi/youtube_video_playback_issue_on_both_stable_and/
https://www.reddit.com/r/youtube/comments/1f2tkq8/did_youtube_remove_the_ability_to_block_ads/

Disabled uBO temporarily and, lo and behold, jootube works normally without the heavy slowdowns. uBO is updated so it might be a matter of patiently waiting for the dev to resolve the issue.

I know about watching jootube with front-ends like Invidious - might have to look into that. As long as I can access my subscriptions page I'd be happy with an alternative.

Fuck those kikeniggers and their ads. Fuck that dead kike Susan Wojcicki, too. I hope niggers dig up her corpse and muhdikk all over it.

Get a Threadripper build, and just power through that shit.

Use Brave... and enjoy completely Ad-Free Youtube without installing a single add-on

Brave is Chromium based - once Jewgle pushes Manifest V3 through ad blocking on all Chromium based browsers will be handicapped.

Brave is a de-Googled version of Chromium.

I use it with no problems, or ads. If there ever is an issue Brave patches it within hours.

The Manifest V3 update isn't related to Brave being de-joogled. It has to do with Chromium itself and specifically extension support. It would even affect something like Ungoogled Chromium browser

Once Manifest V2 support is removed from Chromium around June 2025, ad-blocking via Chromium based browser extensions will be hampered. While Brave claims that the Manifest V3 updates to Chromium won't affect their built-in adblocker, apparently the built-in adblocker uses extension APIs. Time will tell. Brave also says they'll try to support specific V2 extensions like uBO and noscript, but again no guarantees long-term.

I didn't like Brave browser when I tried it a few years ago, and my philosophy has always been to avoid Chromium-based browsers for the very reason this Manifest V3 stuff illustrates. Joogle has too much influence. I'll ride Firefox until it's dead.

I guess this V3 stuff is implemented in a way that makes it hard to maintain a side branch without it, e.g. merging improvements would be a lot of work?

Brave is shit. Firefox nightly and ublock-origin is the way. Fuk jewtube.

Brave is superior right after the install without a single add-on, and it only increases it lead as you fine tune it.

Yes, I've noticed JooTube really fucking sluggish today. I guess I'll use Invidious for a while.

EDIT: It's slow as fucking molasses even with uBlock Origin and NoScripd disabled in an Incognito tab. They just shittified it greatly over the past 24 hours. Comments load so slowly, takes forever to show a sub-group of comments.

Good. Make the experience so bad people finally turn it off.

Same problems. Slow as shit.

Try using mpv (with yt-dlp). Works great, no ads at all. I can even stream in the resolution I choose in the mpv.conf config file.
