I didn’t watch the whole thing. But I do not think Galileo was a one off. I think pagan Europe was forced into Christianity at the point of a sword. I think people were terrified of having the inquisition come after them. I think the church was the leader in patronizing the sciences just as the federal government is now. Being the scientific establishment does not mean you are committed to objective science as we have seen.

They foment hate toward Christians because it 1.) prevents rebellious jews from defecting 2.) helps them justify exploiting members of the host culture.
