College is a metric for your ability to deal with bullshit. They don't want to deal with the bullshit of people who react negatively to their bullshit. If you can do for years of a useless exercise just because it is what you are "supposed to do" then you have the patience to continue down any other stupid path for longer than you should without complaining.
