The only reason that I don't keep any around. I heard about this a long time ago, and my doggo gets into nearly every food that I have, either intentionally or not.
Snake oil. Especially if it's "recommended by dentists". Why would they put their boat and McMansion payments at risk? Your teeth are made of hydroxyapatite. Teeth test 5 on the Mohs hardness scale. Iron tests 4. Except for physical damage, acid is the only thing that can harm your teeth. All bacteria, "good or bad" excrete acid. Call it bacteria poop. Hydrogen Peroxide is the easiest and best way to keep your mouth healthy.
I have used peroxide daily for 25-30 years. I have visited a dentist once in that time to have a broken tooth repaired. I was told that a cleaning was "optional". No plaque, no decay, no heart disease that can originate in the mouth, no bad breath, bleached white teeth, healthy gums....all that for less than 5 cents a day. I'll keep doing what I've been doing.
I brush w/ apagard royal and premio, drink raw milk, raw milk kefir, raw cheeses, and generally just eat healthy. Mouthwashes are not good for the mouth except on the rare occasions. I do rinse my mouth with filtered water several times a day, but never crap storebought rinses/washes.
I on occasion brush with a little h peroxide. Everyone does for themselves what works best, eh? BUT, someone here shared an annoying video of a lady and her routine of the best oral hygiene. Everything she did was not for me save brushing the gums to stimulate one's own creation of HA.
Often drugs/compounds will favor certain kinds of bacteria and somewhat selectively eliminate others. This seems to be true with some of the artificial sweetners. Xylitol may not wipe out all of the mouth biome. I dont know.
I know it causes a diabetic crisis in dogs. I don’t understand why. But if it does just a little of what it does in dogs to us, maybe its not so safe. Most stuff that kills dogs is not good for people.
It's about knowing how to moderate the consumption, as with all things.
"Don't mix any types of sweeteners in a given snack or meal" is a good general rule and don't consume more than one or two servings of any things with alcohol sugars in them in a day.
If you are at risk of blood clots swear off of alcohol sugars.
Gum has such negligible amounts within it that it's basically a non issue.
You don't let them sit there and eat the whole tin.
A small chip after brushing teeth before bed helps protect their teeth while they sleep.
Lots of things cause insulin spike/resistance and life's full of tradeoffs.
For example, out of all of our many children, many have had these and only one has ever had undiluted fruit juice (we sometimes offer a small amount in water).

I bet it can cut cocaine just like mannitol, baby laxative. It's just too sketchy for my liking. Anything that has a known and often experienced side effect of the big D and gut issues, I tend to shy away from. Yes, I know dosage is key, but still, artifical sweeteners' unknowns and potential downsides make me not want to put any of it inside of me.

While doing a brief research it now seems the vaxxed xylitol should avoid the xylitol and its cousins.
