Definitely yes and no. I worked with a closed intranet system with custom programming. At times I'd have to talk to the head programmer to fix issues.

Shits so complicated now, if someone else hasn't solved the problem you could spend weeks trying to figure out what is causing it. It is however a very good way to learn the system.
