I'm originally from Ridgewood, which in my parent's era was mostly German, Irish and Itlain with the odd Rican. When I was like 18, we had one Black kid in the neightborhood, Sean, who used to cut hair. Him and his mother were no trouble. When I was a pre-teen. no Blacks were ever allowed in my neighborhood. From what I understand, the unspoken agreement was you might be able to cross Knickerbocker (Niggerbopper) Avenue in upper Bushwick (on the border of Ridgewood), but no Blacks were supposed to be crossing Wyckoff Avenue a few blocks away into actual Ridgewood. This was a mafia edictg. WE also had the mob presence, but only until the probably the early 1980's. They wacked out some Ginzo on either Knickerbocker, Central or Irving Avenue at some Deli or meat store and then ther neighborhood went to shit--unlike Howard Beach which is much deeper into Queens and still mobbed up to this day.
