Am I experiencing a Mandela effect?

I've always known Men to be XX, and Women to be XY! When did this change?
Am I the only one to remember this differently?

Well, by logic you are not wrong. Y is the symbol of female. It's the scientists who named the chromosomes wrong. You can only memorize it.

Always been XX for females. There are specific chimeric traits that occur because of it only in females of a species, like calico cats.

I get it, I'm backwards on this one, but there has got to be more out there than me, that thinks it used to be different... I would swear that used to be Women were XY & Men were XX.

What I'm saying is that I don't think it qualifies as a Mandela effect because there are narrative reasons for XX having always been the case. MEs generally have cultural memory surrounding them being other than what they were, and are mostly inconsequential. A lot of other stuff would have to change too for males to be XX, so there is likely more reality resilience/resistance to that scale of quantum editing.

Not saying you're wrong, but if you are not then you're farther from home than most of us.

So, I'm not arguing that Males are XX, so much as saying that I have a recollection that males used to be designated as XX. It's as if you read online that Prince is hosting a concert benefit for starving children in Africa, and you say to yourself "That's not possible, Prince died." Inspite of the fact that YOU remember that Prince died, Everyone else believes he's still alive, and there is proof, in that he's hosting a concert. It's seems shockingly real to me that Men were XX & Women were XY.

I am saying that your recollection is more likely to be false than it is to be a genuine case of quantum editing of the timeline and you ending up in this reality, because the thing-that-now-never-was.

It may be an ME case, but if so then very few others have spoken of it, meaning you are from a much more distant version of reality due to the magnitude of the consequences of the change. Not sure how to make that more clear.

I don't have trouble remembering the symbols vs. the sexes, It's just that I remember it differently, and not in a marginal way, but a very vivid way. In the way that you would question the "fact" that Tuesday preceded Monday, if you woke up tomorrow and everyone claimed that Tuesday was the first day of the week, and it's followed by Monday.

So, I am aware of how this works, but I swear, It used to be the other way around, that the Woman had the mismatched chromosomes, and they were the ones that were the determiners of sex of the baby! Seriously, It's like something I've always known recently & suddenly changed!

It has always been this way...at least as far as I know.

Years ago, I had a friend (male) who refused to talk to his wife after she got pregnant, because the child was going to be a girl. He wanted a boy. I know how insane that sounds.

I had to explain to them both how haploid chromosomes work, and that it was his contribution that decided the sex of the child. Hilarious.

Well, unless I can find evidence to argue this point further, I'm going to have to concede this one to you. It's just weird, that I would some how think the opposite of something that's apparently quite well established, were true...
