Flat Earth started gaining traction in 2014. This is around the time that the conspiracy narrative change from the fake Apollo missions to NASA is awesome. Their controlled opposition wanted you to believe the alien bullshit. People caught on to it and started spreading the truth. So now their narrative has to change. If they try to claim that NASA is lying about aliens, then it would mean NASA has no credibility. Therefore, their claims of aliens cannot outweigh the claim of a flat Earth. By accepting the authoritative narrative that NASA is a legitimate space agency, They deny that it is possible for such a massive lie to occur. We should understand about massive lies here.

The biggest problem are distances on the flat earth. Only distances exactly north-south are correct. All other distances are wrong, especially south of the equator, eg. Australia is 2.5 times too wide on the flat earth.
