It's unfortunate batteries have such low energy density compared to gasoline. The weight just compounds the problem by requiring even more to power electric cars for the same distance.

Ehhhhh, depends on how you get your juice. There's a lot of line loss, conversion loss, reconversion loss, battery loss, and so on.

And the volatility of the cells is crazy. If you have never seen an LI-Ion cell go into thermal runaway check out some vids. Just a single 18650 has enough stored energy to instantly remove your hand, depending on the chemistry. And putting out one of these fires, for large packs, is a job in itself. Only to have the fire restart a week later.

Not sure i would even get in an electric vehicle at this point.

Yeah, that's what you get with chinese manufacturing. One or two bad cells, with the entire battery reporting as normal, can cause some serious damage when they get charged up as much as a normal cell. Which for them is an overcharge, which means boom.
