Yeah I truly do assume.

I grew up in a place called both the Federal People's Republic and later the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia before it eventually split and I did not belong to any of the dominant ethnic groups because my family was half Ukrainian.
After the fall of the Soviet Union we endured a series of wars that were later commonly called the Wars of Yugoslav succession in which the country was torn apart by the ethnic rivals vying for territorial consolidation.
I was a young boy when my parents disappeared, I remember they went out to find food and never came back.
A bomb later went off outside the building our apartment was in and while our unit was fine, the building never had four complete walls again.
We were regularly beaten or robbed by my Serbian neighbors who were sometimes friendly, often threatening.
We were usually in some state of desperate hunger and while we had running water throughout, it was not every day nor was it entirely predictable.
We eventually had to eat my little brother's cat, it had been a birthday gift to him from our mother and it suffered when we killed it because we were unskilled and young.
We were lucky enough to be ignored by the Serbian soldiers in the area who were engaged in a program of purification in an effort to create an ethnostate... They were more concerned with the muslims that lived in the neighborhood and didnt consider us relevant - I don't know why.
I was later taken from my brothers by a UN agency after their 'protection force' moved in to my city, and effectively given to an international adoption agency who placed me with an American family.
I never saw them again and I was not able to find them during later attempts.
So, unless you've got some shit that rivals that, you don't know hardship like is commonly experienced by the rest of the world.

I said you can't know yourself until you've know real hardship because it's easy to talk and type.
It's effortless to believe whatever narrative fantasy you like.
However when all the bullshit is stripped away and there's no keyboard, no comfort or hope or offramp for the experience you are being forced to endure - your perspective changes and truth reveals itself irrespective of your desire.
