Did we ever figure out what type of rifle was used?

submitted by MaryXmas to Guns 11 monthsJul 15, 2024 06:21:08 ago (+2/-0)     (Guns)

I keep seeing mixed reports. Best I can figure from the news is an s&w m&p ar but that sounds like a pretty bottom of the barrel pick for an assination attempt.
Also, I am seeing 400 yards which would be possible for an ar but unlikely, based on the skill and accuracy of the population at my local range, especially if the person was non-military. Then, I see 150 ft. Which would be more realistic with a regular ar.

It was an AR-15 that his dad had purchased. Don't know the brand, the bullet or how much practice the shooter had. Difficult shot but well within any AR-15's capabilities.

Amazing shot given the circumstances.

If he had aimed center mass he would have hit and Trump would have at least been hospitalized if he didn't die. He wasn't wearing level 4 plates. Maybe the vest would help if he was hit with hollowpoints but solid core ammo would punch through.

It was 150 years and the standard accuracy for an AR is 3 MOA, making 150 yards + or - 4.5". It was gusty and Trump was moving. The shooter had tried out for the high school rifle team 4 years prior but didn't do very well. He was under pressure having been discovered and was being called out by the crowd.

Should have aimed center mass. He would have hit him and the vest wouldn't stop solid core 223.

That's why he's called Ree Tardy Oswald.

140 yards with an "AR style" rifle is the official narrative.

You can google earth it and measure yourself

just search for "AGR International Inc., Whitestown Road, Meridian, PA"

Secret Service just called it an AR-15. News media said AR style. I'm still waiting for the make and model.

Could have been .308 or .300 blackout.

Mentally ill people don't buy professional sniper rifles.
This guy would have thrown a knife at Trump if that's what he had available to him.

~400 feet was a measurement I saw on one of the images.
An AR could do that no problem with an okay shooter.
I haven't seen confirmations on the weapon yet either.

So 400 ft. With a $600 rifle? And I expect an optic that would not cost more than the gun so a real cheap 12x vortex? Sounds like a rough setup. Yeah, you could do it but if you are taking those types of shots, and doing that type of training, I would expect something slightly better. Something about that setup doesn't make sense.

It sounds to me like it's just what he had.

And yeah, I'd definitely use a better rifle and caliber for that distance and required accuracy.

Because money exists and not everyone has it? That's a very fine setup with easy capability of hitting the target consistently. The situation is the only thing that stopped him. Adrenaline will fuck u up.

For the present of the United States of America? Really? You have literally one shot, at the president of the United States of America and use a cheap rifle. I am going to go out on a limb and say Remington white box. No way was that kid prepared for what he was doing.

Headshot at 150m with a cheap optic is doable. I could hit 400m targets reliably with a worn M-16 using iron sights. Dude should have aimed center mass. Trump's vest can't stop solid core 223.

An AR is basically a low power sniper rifle.
They are super accurate.

Oh my. I had no idea.

I bet a Remington model 7 would do better.
