If you want to go to the next level of pedantic along with me, the actual correct pronunciation is ET-ketera. C is always hard in Classical Latin. Don't let these lispy faggots suggest otherwise.
A good example of this would be the word Kike. It shares the same Latin root with circle and cyclone.
The whole soft C thing is Late and Vulgar Latin, post 2nd century.
Back to your original point though, I agree 100% that anyone who says "eck-setera" should be castrated, to prevent them further damaging the genetic pool.
No, because like you said, it's FROM Latin, but it isn't Latin. It's English, and the English don't have any actual rules for how C is pronounced, you just have to know.
If it was the Latin root word "celeber" then yes, it would 100% be a hard C. There is no soft C in Latin, but there is in English.
Well, oviously (for all intensive purposes), it is a mute point, irregardless of how you feel. You can try to nip that in the butt. Case and point: I should of been at this sites beckon call for grammer, rather than some escape goat. (I could care less, I am not on tender hooks over it), and I don't mind being taken for granite.)

Etcetera isn't derived from Latin, it is Latin.
