Question #1: You are the police marksman. Which would you rather be forever known to history as?:
A) The guy who peeled the shooter's wig back before he could start shooting and saved the President and a bleacher of bystanders from death?
Or,
B) The guy who stood by with his thumb up his ass and waited for permission to fire, until the suspect actually started shooting?

Question #2: If you had eyes on the shooter all that time, and were waiting for "permission to engage" from some "higher authority", why didn't you just go ahead and shoot him after the suspect had fired his first round? That is the very definition of an "imminent threat".

Anyone with any actual, real-world experience in these matters would know that ANY lethal force threat that presented an imminent danger to ANY citizen, much less the President, would have been immediately engaged and neutralized without ANY need to contact any higher authority to ask permission before doing so.

All that is required for the use of deadly force is: The suspect has the capability, opportunity, and intent to use deadly force to harm the officer or any other person.

That's it. That's all. A lethal threat is a lethal threat, "imminent" means fucking "imminent", and a good shooting is a good shooting, period.

Pretty standard across the board policies, huh? Now, in ALL of that, did anybody see ANYTHING in ANY of those policies about a requirement for, "contacting higher authority for permission"? No? That's right. Because it doesn't fucking happen.
