Staging a fake assassination attempt would be a horrifically tricky business in the first place, not the least of which is because it would be indistinguishable in every aspect from a real attempt. One is vague at best, and misleading because a headshot implies death or critical injury or at the very least a bullet penetrating and the other phrase (ear grazed) accurately describes what happened.

He wasn't even shot in the ear because there is virtually no way to be shot in the ear without dying via head injury unless maybe that's what your aiming to do to King Charles at point blank range.
