Used to jump at Raeford DZ almost every Saturday for a while.

Watched it grow from just a runway, a couple of buildings and a patch of grass into what it is now. Drank many a beer at PK’s. Lots of good folks there.

There's a lot of shit that has happened out there over the years.

Stories that would be funny if they didn't all involve somebody dying.

Ah, have only heard the audio of the initial call before. Good extra info, with more in the comments. Have to wonder if that guy taking the initial call was one of the FAA's mentally handicapped they've been focused on hiring.

Iirc correctly at autopsy - stone cold sober but detected kratom (No idea the level or if recent) in his system.

Speculation is kid freaked after fcking up the landing, causing damage and collapsing the right strut, maybe worried at investigation be required to submit to a blood screen - which automatically would have then cancelled his pilot's license for drugs (kratom).
Plus the landing would have been recorded with the FAA as an accident and on his permanent record potentially ruining any possible commercial career with a main carrier before it even started.

Yeah, not only would a blood screen pick it up and revoke his pilot license but also having an accident recorded at the FAA on his permanent record would potentially exclude the kid from a career as a commercial pilot and thus (if this was his end goal) hundreds of thousands in earnings and the Prestigeous commercial pilot gold wings.
