360 million people would be killed in the first few hours of the [Nuclear] conflict

An asteroid would do that too.

According to calculations by Russian scientists, the object will pass 39,000 kilometres from Earth. This distance may seem exaggerated, but the moon orbits the Earth at more than 350,000 kilometres.
This is a bit concerning. The 39,000km (or ~24,000 miles) is close to the geostationary satellite orbit distance and well within Earth’s gravity well. I don’t think I’ve heard of such a large object passing as close in my life.
If Apophis has enough speed, and it should, it’ll whisk right by. But if the rock gets caught in our gravity, things could get a bit dark.

Hope they keep a close eye on this one.

These asteroids always seem to miss Earth, stupid things.
