My stupid fucking 4th

So my best friend Hyde, my dog, had been getting old. At 12 and a half, he was showing his age. Yesterday he wouldn't even lift his head. Usually when I shoot squirrels out my back door with the Red Ryder he freaks out. Yesterday he just laid there and watched me. Thats when I decided then he wasn't the boy I've known all these years and it was time for him to go.

Luckily, I have a large group of racist friends and a bunch if them came over to hang out with us and say goodbye. After the paw prints were pressed, I carried him out to the garage in his bed so my buddy Mike could do it for me. I'm a bitch like that. After I gently placed him into a predug hole out back I covered him with dirt and Bob said a prayer. I balled like a woman.

Later in the day, another friend was on the phone and said he didn't know what he was going to do about his dog that needed to be put down. We offered to go to him but he didn't have the yard to bury her. I told him to bring her and his family to my house and we would do it for him. Same story...hole, dirt, prayer.

Then we had our own firework show in the street. It was hard to be sad then.

Now I'm sitting in my garage with 2 crosses, made from cedar, woodburned and stain still drying drinking beer with tears in my eyes.

I miss that little fucker so much but I know he can't live forever. Doesn't make the pain any less.

I'm just happy they went on the 4th because gunshots are indistinguishable from mortars when city limits matter when discharging a firearm.

Edit: he also couldn't walk and hadn't eaten in 2 weeks. I wouldn't have made the call if I wasn't sure he was done.

I'm glad you had friends over to help through the hard times. Doing things alone is never easy. I've put down three dogs over the years, and it never gets easier. My latest dog gets too involved and if I'm not careful to curtail him, he'll end up barely able to walk the next day. His days draw near.

Good on you for providing a home to honor your friends dog and family as well.

Remember the good times, its why Hyde was your pal to the end.

I agree. It's so hard watching them fall asleep at the vet, in your arms knowing what's happening. They don't know but you're alleviating their pain the only way you can.

I'm so sorry for loss bro. I'm sure they were a great companion. It's like I've always told others the problem with fur buddies is 9 times out of 10 you're going to see them go. Best we can do is love them as much as possible and give them the best life they deserve. Sounds like you did right by your buddy.

I don't get the idea of killing your own pet. Livestock raised for slaughter, sure. But if you're even going to have pets or family members in the first place, killing them when they become inconvenient seems a little cold blooded.

So I had a fur bud. Gave him all the love I had. Fed him the best food and gave him the best environment. His kidneys started failing. I dumped all the money I could to keep him alive. Overnight vet visits in oxygen tanks, pills, injections. One day he got off his chair and couldn't walk anymore. I put him down and watched life drain from his eyes because I knew it was the only thing I could do. We don't know what this brother has gone through. It's not cold blooded. You're buds give you a sign when it's time to go and it's up to you to do the necessary

Yeah, any true dog owner that loves their dog understands that they do tell you when they want to go. They will love you no matter what, but death to them is not being able to express that to you the way that they had done for years.

So far, I've only had to put down one of my dogs. We buried him in the back after giving him a sedative and then putting him out after we were certain he was unresponsive. He was full of life only a few weeks prior and then it was like his age just caught up to him in a couple of weeks. He always ran up to me every day that I came to see him and the last week we had with him, I saw him wag his tail a bit when he saw me coming, but he didn't move or get up from his bed. He was obviously not doing well.

Thanks. Your explanation makes logical sense, and I'm just not going to put myself in that position. Plants I can do. Could probably do food critters. I'm not getting attached to something I'll end up having to kill. Or even just watch it suffer and die. No amount of good times are worth that, imo. \o/

Lost my best dog at 9, replacement dog is not nearly the dog my old one was but still helps fill that hole.

Remember the good times with your buddy and plant a tree where he lay. I cremated mine and planted a nice Japanese maple in the ashes, put her tag on the tree and I get to go bug her sometimes.

Some animals you have an unbreakable bond with, my last dog was 'the one'as they say, hope Hyde was yours.

I’m sorry for your loss, but happy for you for having all those great years with your buddy. For me it’s chickens. I know, may sound silly, but mine all have names and some I’ve gotten very close too. Nursed them through illnesses and injuries. I’ve lost two in the last four weeks and I’m down to two left. I don’t think I can do it anymore, meaning I won’t be getting more chickens anytime soon.

Actually just had an epiphany. I euthanized my dog after I ran him over. The reason why you do it is because it makes you sad to see them suffer. The animals natural instinct would be to stay alive even under pain. Like ours. However watching a dog suffer is too much for us to personally take. Kinda selfish if you think about it. Even with crushed hips. My dog probably would've want to live as long as possible. They have tough spirits and I don't think dying is ever something they consider. So the answer is we are selfish and weak and kill them so we don't have to suffer with them.

The little fucker came out of his shell and sprawled out on the floor of his aquarium and laid there for a couple days. I said welp he ded and we buried him in the woods. How did you euthanize him? I've taken mine to the vet always and I'm not sure if there is a better way. I don't even have a dog anymore because it hurts a lot and also now that jews have ratcheted up the robbing, it's harder to have time/money for dogs.

My friend shot him for me. Vets won't let you take your dog home after they euthanize them. You either pay a shitload for a private cremation or they do a bunch of dogs and you receive a salad of dog remains as a souvenir. Both my boys are buried out back.

And stayed with her for an hour afterward. I love you, Kate. (She was my daughter. cried at weird times, while driving for at least a week afterward)

I've had dogs before that I could tell were close to death,and a lot of times they would disappear off in the woods to die and never see them again. But these were outside dogs in the country. They don't really have that choice living in town and if they have trouble walking.

My dog is getting to be middle aged next year. Though it's still a ways off, I've started thinking about her aging and what's going to happen in the future to her. She's one of the most loving dogs that I've ever had, and she's so sassy that I forgot what it was like to be without her. I couldn't bear if she wasn't able to do the things that she loved without being in pain. I'd probably send her off like you did, getting all my friends together and making sure that she knew that she was loved right until the moment that she leaves us.
