He was so likeable because he always had a smile on his face and he just seemed like he was casually happily going through life and nothing ever bothered him. I don't think I ever heard him talk about any distressing subject or anything so when you saw him come on stage you always knew it would just be a pleasant funny light-hearted experience in a generally upbeat mood and that's why everybody loved him.
Completely agree. They were insanely talented, they knew their fans were their bread & butter. There was a sense of decorum, it wasn't about engaging in a race to the bottom, like so many of today's "stars". Is some regards, these legitimate stars of yesteryear were approachable. They loved their fans as much as their fans loved them. You could see Dean Martin out in public and talk to him, unlike the manufactured crap we have today who find it a struggle to gaze upon a lowly peasant that just wants an autograph, or to say hello.
