Essentially speaking....

Yes,

There is a whole lot of science and chemistry behind essential oils and their respective constituents. The problem is that while the oil may not go “bad” – it doesn’t stay the oil you know and love forever. It will begin to change and break down. And while there may not be an exact science behind the “shelf life” of an oil, there is a pretty good idea on how long an oil should last if stored properly.

I know through smell, patch test and some do the paper test, one can generally tell its changing properties or pureness of properties, but how would I test what it's changing to, at home?

I think it's more that the "active ingredients" chemically lose their potency.

Stop using essential oils, it’s snake oil from quacks and many are highly toxic even when applied topically.

Usually they're from plants though. The concentration will produce far greater effects than using bulk plant material.

You want to make sure it's in glass instead of plastic, and buy from reputable companies that don't add sketchy chemicals or other impurities.

Apple seeds are also natural, as long as the cyanide is in a glass container its completely harmless. Try some and report back to me.

In 1917, Stanley's Snake Oil was discovered to contain no actual snake oil, creating the notion that bottles of snake oil (and their salesmen) were essentially a fraud.

Now days they sell you the real active ingredient, they just make egregious claims it cures what ails you.

Just take this tincture of organic seed oil, trust me bro it fixes what you have, lol

Clove oil, for example, actually does numb your gums to a noticeable degree.

You shouldn't be believing random hucksters.

Clove oil impairs liver function, just place a clove where it hurts and that’s it.
You must be the easiest person to swindle.

Generally speaking, quacks are only advocating essential oil's personally and not professionally as the mark-up for essential oils is not much and therefore not a good financial incentive to pay off their student loan.

Although Melaleuca Oil is indeed a topical antibacterial and antifungal agent, it is also a known skin irritant causing eczema for most people. It is best used in humidifiers.
