Women put diesel in their massagers.

While I try to avoid “A Thousand Ways To Die” scenarios, that was pretty cool!

Hazardous hicks. I bet he's under surveillance.

After posting that video, yeah, absolutely.

That's just with the nigger-rigged kit too. So many improvements can be made. For example, a small backpack size compressor and pressure tank. Of course, the compressor would run on deisel. There is also the obvious "upgrade" with all the fittings and whatnot so you don't end up drenched in flamable spirits.

10/10

Battery-operated pressure washers exist.

Battery-operated pressure washers exist.

I know that, but if you're already using diesel fuel, it's bad manners to have two power supplies when you can have just one. Gas powered sprayers exist, but I'm not sure I've seen a diesel one.

Good to know for the zombie apocalypse

While diesel is kinder to gaskets than gasoline, I'm not sure the ones in the power washer are rated for it. Don't expect it to last too long unless you take it apart and upgrade them.

Ok, I’m doing that shit.

[ - ] SilentByAssociation 1 point 1 yearJun 19, 2024 08:07:50 ago (+1/-0)

Thanks for posting this. I've been meaning to look for this video for the longest time.

Edit: that power washer does a whole lot more than residential and commercial cleaning.

That is way more badass than I was expecting. The sound is awesome.

I think you made this video. Glad you didn't blow up your shop.

A couple pointers:

-Mix the diesel with styrofoam.
-Fit a nozzle that allows for a steady, long range stream.

The way this is set up is more akin to a brush burner and not a real weapon.

Redneck engineering at its finest.

I'd be a little concerned with bubbles in the line. If you get the right fuel/air mix... well, most diesels run what 300-400 PSI? Even low end pressure washers are like 1600. So as soon as the diesel and air are squeeze into that little nozzle... eh, I guess it's still low pressure out the nozzle and high pressure in, so if it does pre-ignite it won't come back at you.

Maybe.

[ - ] aleleopathic 4 points 1 yearJun 19, 2024 17:45:23 ago (+4/-0)

The main thing isn't the pressure, it is the adiabatic compression, which requires a highly compressible fluid to build heat through shrinking volume.

The diesel doesn't compress even remotely as much, and thus doesn't heat anywhere near as much either.

That said, it should be possible to make a special venturi nozzle that introduces just enough air that it will ignite just after leaving the nozzle... but maybe not, as it will expand again once exposed to atmosphere and will rapidly cool. Still an interesting thought.

Fun fact: Hydrogen is known to spontaneously combust if blown at pressure past sharp metal. The mechanism's physics aren't fully understood.

Is the PSI rating on a pressure washer just the pressure at the jet/surface interface then? I.e. you only get like 100 lbs. of pressure, but it's over like 1/16 in. so therefore 1600 PSI? I guess at the nozzle that would still be a high PSI rating since the nozzle's so tiny.

Hydrogen is known to spontaneously combust if blown at pressure past sharp metal. The mechanism's physics aren't fully understood.

Isn't it just effect of the Joule-Thomson coefficient of hydrogen being negative? The hydrogen would compress at the surface, then expand, heating upon expansion enough to spontaneously combust? I did a similar calculation for a chemistry test (probably thermo) in college for a hypothetical "leaky tank" scenario, and the energy released was pretty significant due to the pressure difference, and the conclusion was that the hydrogen could spontaneously combust due to such a leak.

I guess you could test it below hydrogen's inversion temperature to see, but that raises other questions like not reaching the autoignition temp due to refrigeration.

Looks like it could be catalytic oxidation on the metal's surface, combined with negative JT heating, leading to ignition.

Idk, don't have any hydrogen tanks sitting around to test it. Not an analytical chemist anymore either, so... good luck someone else!

Isn't it just effect of the Joule-Thomson coefficient of hydrogen being negative?

No, IIRC it is triboelectric somehow. It will actually build a charge on a sharp metal surface, eventually creating its own spark.

The pressure difference doesn't need to be large.

Some risks are worth taking.

Just remember to point it downwind or your mullet might catch fire.

My neck ain’t red…, its a copper tone tan…, have I ever told you goats about butane lighter refill and caulking gun flame thrower? It’s completely silent until you pull the trigger…, yup.

[ - ] GuyWhite 4 points 1 yearJun 19, 2024 08:36:20 ago (+4/-0)

Post plans. Sounds good. My neck is red.

[ - ] TomMacdonald 0 points 1 yearJun 19, 2024 09:43:08 ago (+0/-0)

He's saying hold a can of butane open with a caulking gun. Or you could use a clamp
