A pet is also a good idea. Not only does it give you a temporary being to share love with, but it can improve your life. Cats purrs have been proven to relieve stress (and cats are super low-maintenance), and dogs will force you to get out of the house at least 3 times a day (and can get female attention if they're sweet/cute).
