Laid my bike down tonight.

submitted by Sleazy to TellUpgoat 1 yearJun 16, 2024 01:51:34 ago (+27/-0)     (TellUpgoat)

What the fuck?

I was driving along on a residential street coming up on a 4 way stop, there's a car behind me, a car stopping across from me, and a car coming up to the intersection to my left. No big deal, I am downshifted into first gear and hitting the brakes. I pull in the clutch and give it more brakes to stop. when all of a sudden the bike is sliding sideways somehow,

what the fuck?

Its slipping out from underneath me. I put my feet down to catch it, and my fucking feet are sliding along with the bike and there is no grip, what the fuck, its slippery as wet ice all of a sudden, and next thing I know, the bike i layin on its side and so am I.

What the fuck?

I get up onto my feet and shut off the bike and go to pick it up and I notice the whole fucking area of the street there I am on is completely covered with fucking dirty oil and is slippery as can be.

I never noticed that coming up to the corner cause I was paying attention to the cars making sure they are going to stop and watching for danger from them. I should have been watching for the danger of the fucking oil.

Then I was pissed.

Then the guy who was behind be pulled up along side of me and asked me if I was ok. I told him, fucking oil, it all slipped out from under me, and he says I know, I saw that, are you allright?

And I was ok, and my bike stared up and got me home, I'm going to look at it in the morning in the daylight, but it looks like the back blinker thing got scratched, the mirror on the left handlebar got loosened but I was able to get that back in place. It's probably scratched too. And my footpeg is all bent. And there is something squeaking that wasn't squeaking before.

Damn it.

3 second speed skim of this tale does not seem to mention a nigger stealing your bike and thus I'm emotionally detached from this tale.

[ - ] canbot 6 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:36:12 ago (+6/-0)

I think we can safely assume the road is covered in oil because of someone driving a car that should not be on the road. Then leaving the area without dealing with the mess they made. If that is not nigger behavior then what is?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 5 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 04:10:16 ago (+5/-0)

That's what I was thinking, that is where the nigger is in my story. It is obvious now that you said it

Heavy scene, dude. Glad you weren't injured.Oil could have been laid down by a sicko?

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 3 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 02:43:01 ago (+3/-0)

i think someone had a shit car with a terrible oil leak or maybe an engine threw a rod right there.

It was a big area that was slippery as hell

Riding a two wheeler is fun until you lose limbs or die.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 02:44:26 ago (+4/-0)

I was only going 2 miles an hour at most, the fuckers

[ - ] Sector2 5 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 02:58:53 ago (+5/-0)

The good news is you weren't hurt.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 4 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:06:04 ago (+4/-0)

Damned right. I do have some aches and pains and I can tell I am going to have bruises on my left knee, hip and elbow.

I've always wanted a bike, but I am so afraid of the other drivers and stuff running out in front of me like deer or dogs, and hidden hazards on the road like in this story.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 5 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:04:01 ago (+5/-0)

I watch vigilantly for the other drivers and deer, especially in known deer areas where I live and ride. I usually go for rides late at night on hot summer days when there is really no traffic to speak of and if I do encounter traffic, I can simply take a different street that is deserted. I don't really like to go nuts and drive it fast, I just like to cruise with the big full body fan of the wind and the open viel of the world going bye at 35 or 40 miles per hour. It's the closest thing I have found on Earth, that feels like it feels when you're and angel, and are propelled by your angel wings.

Bikes make so much noise I always hope the driver crashes and burns :)

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:04:57 ago (+2/-0)

Mine is pretty quiet, unless I floor it, but I don't do that often. You woudn't be annoyed by me. LoL

[ - ] GodDoesNotExist 0 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:30:01 ago (+1/-1)

Nothing wrong with that then or electric ones.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 03:46:16 ago (+1/-0)

I just love to cruise at 40mph out there in the open air, it is great to clear your mind and it makes me feel happy

Once came over a hill in my sports car and the side sprinkler for the grass was pointed in the road. I hit the water patch while in low g and spun. Wasn't even going fast

Totalled the car

Luckily not injured.

I got blamed but today I would know to sue the fuck out of the landscaping and sprinkler people who had the sprinkler watering the road.

Glad you didnt get hurt, its kind of amazing how things can get out of control in a motor vehicle in an instant completely beyond your control

[ - ] Zyklonbeekeeper 3 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 05:00:56 ago (+3/-0)

OP...you're fucking lucky that's all you got, at least you had the common sense to not be an asshole rider doing 80mph up to the stop light, from what you posted I don't see anything being your fault, I've seen my share of oil slick accidents and slicks are not all that easy to spot many times, especially on corners or the base of an incline....chalk it up to just another cost of riding...now address your damages and get back out there.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 2 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 05:23:41 ago (+2/-0)

The experience has made me think what the fuck would have happened if I had hit the oil and it went and slide out from under me at 40mph or even 20 or 25. if there had not been traffic in the area I think I might have noticed the oil on the blacktop, but that may be just me telling myself that.

thanks for the encouragement.

To pass the buck you could video and verify the condition of the road which the city is responsible to maintain and send them a bill, but it would be an extended battle and maybe not worth the effort.

That completely sucks but could have been worse and you've filled the random BS quota for the year. Karma is telling you to go buy some good armored leathers and boots.

Some bikes are made such that simply laying them down at low speeds like this will only damage certain parts. Mine is like this. His sounds like such a bike.

They tuck a lot of the bike under/behind the foot peg, handle bar, and something in the back (usually the blinker), to hopefully 3-point the bike and keep it from falling directly on your leg(which isn't set up to take several hundred pounds of hot bike suddenly to the side).

This also helps to keep it from hitting any engine/exhaust components on the ground.

Usually.

General rule of thumb. If it doesn't have 4 wheels. Do not attempt to operate it.

Sad sorry to hear. I once laid down my bike driving slowing through some sand that blew over in to the corner. I think it was slow enough that it didn't get any scratches, but still completely unexpected.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 08:17:15 ago (+0/-0)

If u gonna ride em, u gonna eat pavement eventually. I will stick to riding my faggy e-bike in the neighborhood.

[ - ] HeyJames 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 09:55:41 ago (+1/-0)

Hmm you defended drinking and driving before so I doubt the "oil slick" story to be perfectly honest

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 13:47:19 ago (+0/-0)

LoL I was not drinking and driving

[ - ] shadowwolf225 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 10:32:09 ago (+1/-0)

Hey dude. Hate to hear about your accident. Hope you're feeling ok. I experienced a similar situation at an intersection on an old country road. Apparently the silt had built up right at the stop sign and until the front tire of my bike hit all that un stuck grit, it looked absolutely no different than the rest of the road. Same <5mph drop as you describe and I still had a bruise from my knee to my hip that lasted a couple weeks. Also bent up the gear shift pretty bad. Had another riding buddy lay his down in a curve because of gravel in the road where trucks were exiting a scrap metal yard. His attention was on the drivers acting unpredictable in the area. You only have so much attention and the more its on one thing the less you see others. That's just being human.

I'm really glad you're ok. Just be really careful out there. Bikes are a blast but they do carry significant danger even if you and all the other idiots on the road are well behaved.

and I bet the moment you stopped at this 4-way some boomer started motioning for others to go through.

I laid a crotch rocket down like that one time in a freshly graveled parking lot. I cut the wheel a little to turn and down my ass went!

Wow terrible

Maybe call and report the area for other's safety.

[ - ] SilentByAssociation 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 13:59:28 ago (+1/-0)

Did you dress for the ride or the slide?

You may be able to make a claim against the city/county because of the lack of maintaining the roads. No signage or anything.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 0 points 1 yearJun 16, 2024 14:40:16 ago (+0/-0)

I was dressed for the ride, of course.

I think trying to get something out of the city would be a huge waste of time.

[ - ] BulletStopper 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 14:57:42 ago (+1/-0)

When it happened to me it was a mix of leaves and sand in a turn on a dark road.

[ - ] Sleazy [op] 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 15:02:37 ago (+1/-0)

shit sucks

[ - ] Version6 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 21:11:47 ago (+1/-0)

I'm good, thanks, and my son helped me get the bike back into shape, it's as it was before the incident, I am bruised, but the bike is good
