Put a 3" lift, new bigger tires, and removed the sway bar on this 2016 Polaris Ranger 900 6 seater. Thing is a beast. Took it up some crazy trails in this mountainous terrain.

Those are Kawasaki engines right?

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee [op] 1 point 1 yearJun 15, 2024 23:08:53 ago (+1/-0)

No, Polaris makes their own engines. 900cc Twin in this case. I think the new polaris RZRs have like 2L inline 4's now, can even get them turbo'd.

What I do every day just get up my road LOL. (mine is a CFMOTO. Don't knock the chinese crap, even Polaris ain't American)

Which CF Moto? I used to be a bike/atv/sxs mechanic at a dealership that sold CF Homos.

uforce 600. I've had it for a few years, and honestly the thing has been kind of a beast, I work the fuck out of it. I have to wear ear protection in the fucking thing, but it's been a beast in terms of being able to plow snow, haul gravel, tow shit (should have bought the 1000 / twin cylinder). I picked it up back in spring 2021 during the supply crunch, was originally thinking Polaris or Kawasaki Mule, but nothing and I mean NOTHING was in stock anywhere, besides this one lonely uforce, so I pulled the trigger and ..it's been pretty good so far

Nice. I 'member the 4wd actuator motors on those like to quit working. Nice to see a good review on those. CF Motos have come a long way.

speaking of which ..I let the dealer do the original break-in service and @50hrs. I am coming up on 100 and it's out of warranty now anyway, so will do the rest myself. Anything I need to watch out for with these?

Trees, deer, niggers

I used to work on those at a dealership. ALWAYS USE LOW GEAR for low speeds, mud, hills, and lots of stop-and-go riding. I can't tell you how many belts and worn CVT sheaves I have changed because customers use high gear for everything and burn up the belt and sheaves prematurely.

[ - ] clymer 0 points 12 monthsJun 16, 2024 21:11:46 ago (+0/-0)

LOL already learned my lesson (the first belt was skipping because I was using high to move tree limbs with the winch out of the woods in reverse - replaced. That was at like 25 hours). Honestly, for the money: 10K with hardtop, winch.. Fucking thing starts every time I hop in it. Have spread like 100 yards of crushed rock with it, WAY overfilling the dump body, I plow uphill a 12 degree slope ..never owned a polaris so I can't compare (i'm sure they are hands down a better machine), but for the money ..it's been good to me. So far

Golf cart with mudders?

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 0 points 1 yearJun 15, 2024 23:47:35 ago (+0/-0)

Those things are useful for all sorts of stuff. I see a lot of them around here in farmer country.

I like seeing the converted solar golf carts. Take a 36/48v golf cart, put the offroading kit on it, slap a PV controller and as many/densest PV panels on top as you can. Upgrades to that would be a better throughput battery, more roof+panels, and move from 36v to 48v(if applicable).

Been a while since I've ridden the mountain bike out to the trails. Mostly just take the dog on hikes and whatnot these days.

Been refurbishing the old bike recently and am on the last part (front fork/shocks). Once that's done I can re-assemble it and it'll be good for another 20 years, god willing.

Good to see more of us getting outside. It helps.

In my town its how everybody gets around. lol I take mine to the store, post office, etc.

[ - ] PotatoWhisperer2 1 point 1 yearJun 16, 2024 00:00:35 ago (+1/-0)

Yeah, that's why I'm rebuilding the bike. Get my ass moving again and to get around with a trailer to haul shit when gas gets too pricey.

My dad had a "Stealth" buggy. It was pretty much a badass golf cart with a lot of batteries (dont know the voltage) but it had an inverter and an AC motor and was 4wd with a high lift and big ITP mud tires. This was pretty fast for a 4wd golf cart. Super fun to offroad on that thing.

a lot of batteries (don't know the voltage)

Probably to up the amperage available to the motors. If you upgrade the motors you need to pay attention to amp draw or you'll run into problems. It's one of the reasons those DIY ebikes catch fire sometimes.

Super fun to offroad on that thing.

Yeah, that's why people do it. That and free grocery trips.

Hell yeah that's what I did today. Perfect day for it. Just made an upload about it before I seen this. I have 32" on my General but still drag once in a while. A friend of mine got shitty gas and was having problems with his quitting. As soon as I heard it I knew it was water in the gas.

Had a HS buddy who lived 'in the countryside' back when the definition of country didn't include housing tracks. We'd take 3-wheelers through frozen ponds covered with snow to make the race course and drift them between the trees. I think I'm one of the few people who've done a 360 on a snowmobile. We were doing 45-50mph down a sheet ice dirt road. Buddy was up on the side grass and slammed on the brakes. I did the same and rotated in slo-mo expecting to jump high when it caught. It didn't and somehow ended up in the same direction by pure luck.

This year I finally bought an E-bicycle and so glad to have finally pulled the trigger.

Hills are easy and fast. Can carry a few bags of groceries. The 55yo old knees don't ache at the end of the ride. Easy to get around town if the car breaks down. It's supposedly rated for 30-40 miles on one battery. Not entirely perfect but so better than the salvation army thing I was occasionally riding for the last fifteen years. New chinese tires for that would have been more expensive than a new bike.

Today I rode down to the farmer's market (plenty of eye candy) and bought with cash a ton of homegrown food for the freezer from local farm producers outside the system. They are always there in the rain and 100 deg days.
Went to the bike store and got a water bottle and extra light.
Afterwards went up the street a ways to explore, passed a smiling cute girl walking a GSD, and discovered an extensive overgrown winding trail system through the woods which I never knew about the entire time I've lived here. Never saw a person on the trail, not even a bum camping. Almost got lost after a while and had to double back.

I also had a good day. People don't know what they are missing.

Combat golf? Any fatalities?

[ - ] Not_a_redfugee [op] 1 point 1 yearJun 15, 2024 23:11:13 ago (+1/-0)

Gently bumped a tree once on a steep hill climb, but didn't break anything on this trip!

Maybe his wife makes him ride in the back while she drives?
