Someone shot me a roman salute while passing

I was in the left hand lane of a 2-lane highway, light traffic. At first, I was in the city portion where the speed limit is 35 mph. Then we transitioned to a straight away where you can drive 60. There was a little white coupe behind me. I sped up to pass the slow guy in the right-hand lane, then got over so the white car could pass me. As he did, the passenger shot out a roman salute. So I did one back.

I don't even have any telling stickers on my car! Feels great man. Please let this be a new thing.

I do it as a signal for when people are crossing the street in front of me or waving at neighbors. I think they think I'm just waving. Haven't gotten one back yet.

It was definitely a white arm. I'm always looking at bumper stickers to find other sympathizers, but I have nothing outstanding on my car. I guess I just ooze Aryan vibes.

A large group meeting of different factions of our organization were called to a restaurant out by Sunrise Mall. Upon entering, and wife and I were among the last to enter, I threw up a Roman and half the room was shocked. The other half laughed out loud.

Just a question. Is it possible that that gesture is really just natural body language that evolved into a formal salute? They could have intended it as a roman or just doing natural body language.

I considered that it wasn't on purpose, but the arm and outstretched hand were straight as a rod and at the perfect angle. They definitely weren't pointing either.
