Flip flops at a job interview?

submitted by PeckerwoodPerry to whatever 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 18:18:40 ago (+25/-1)     (whatever)

Got two new jobs this week. Both interviews I wore flip flops to.

It's fuckin silly, but it kinda blows my mind a little. I don't think I'd hire someone that wore flip flops to an interview, but whatever I'll take it.

It is Florida though, and it was hotter than a nun's pussy on Sunday here. I ain't putting socks on unless I absolutely have to.

Whatever, got the jobs and my income is gonna stabilize. Just thought it was a sign post for where companies are regarding standards.

I put on a nice shirt, tie, and a jacket for mine. It was an at home zoom interview.

Did I get the job? No I'm a white male. Companies don't hire people like me anymore.

Focus on small to mid-sized companies. Every professional job I got were at small to tiny companies. Before remote work gained in popularity, I was doing it because the tiny company didn't even have an office for about three years.

Spot on, I'm able to filter my applicants as we don't have an HR department, so my team is 100% White males.

I got kick out of college, so I'm relegated to trade work or restaurant work. College town, so it may be that anyone that's not a retarded student gets hired on the spot.

[ - ] Leveraction 7 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 19:43:29 ago (+7/-0)

Be glad you got kicked out of college, you saved a shitload of money and you didn't get the brainwashing from the liberal lefty loony toon professors. Electricians, plumbers, hvac, make a hell of a lot more money and no debt. You just had a blessing come your way!

Swampnigger. Your town is stupid and shaped stupidly and sonny BBQ is just ok.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 05:40:08 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, Sonny's is fine I guess. You really gotta go to Newberry or Waldo if you want good BBQ.

I hate this city. I was born and raised on the coast and I miss the smell of saltwater. It's to fuckin expensive though. I pay $1400/month for a 3/1 house with a yard here. That same thing would cost me triple in my hometown.

Classic cafe is Waldo has a solid burger.

Go to the forgotten coast. You can still find good places for decent.

I've submitted my background check information 3 separate times and it's been nearly 3 weeks. 2 days I get a text saying that I couldn't be hired as a result of my background check. Well, I passed the ACT 34 and 153 checks as well as the FBI check to volunteer at a place that caters to children, elderly, disabled, so I knew that wasn't right. I sent a text message back requesting the exact reason and a copy but never got a response. However the same day I got a message on the recruitment sight where I first learned of the company and it was HR asking me to apply for employment there. I responded that I had already interviewed twice and filled out all of the onboarding paperwork only to be told I mysteriously did not pass the background check. Well imagine my surprise when I found out that my background check hadn't even been submitted yet. I saw only 2 Whites working there, an elderly White male and a White male manager around my age. Guess the skin color of the manager who sent me the text saying I didn't pass the background check, the manager responsible for giving my background check information sheet to HR, the manager with whom I interviewed. It seems he went around HR and shitcanned my application simply because I was White because everyone in his department is black. Here's the kicker: one of the other candidates they had in to fill out onboarding paperwork was an immigrant who could not understand a complete sentence in English, so he was obviously an illegal invader. He could not understand what this nigger manager was saying. Apparently he's from like Haiti or Mozambique or an old French colony because he spoke French - and I speak enough French to be able to communicate effectively to him what the manager was trying to explain in English. I bet he hasn't had these background check issues...

If you took that job, you better be looking at those small companies hard foe another right away, THey need a White dude to blame for the thefts and incompetence. THere's no way in the world a dei genocide cult is going to let one of their equality incompetent slaves be arrested or fired when you're there.

The CEOs and financiers are not interested in running a functional company. It's warfare to destroy the country.

[ - ] Laputois 1 point 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 08:48:53 ago (+1/-0)

Why would you want to work there?

[ - ] GreenSaint 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 02:26:43 ago (+0/-0)

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry [op] 3 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 19:12:52 ago (+3/-0)

Nope, never once.
You?

[ - ] bosunmoon 0 points 11 monthsJun 8, 2024 15:05:14 ago (+0/-0)

Have you ever considered that you might secretly be a Martian? Has anyone ever proven to you that you’re not?

[ - ] HeyJames 9 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 18:55:50 ago (+9/-0)

I work in a blue collar industry but still wear business casual for meetings etc. If it works for you though then go for it

[ - ] GreenSaint 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 02:28:21 ago (+0/-0)

My friend is a section manager at a supermarket. I recall he said he has a retard working there, but that she is not bad. Better than some of the borderline retarded others that are also lazy. Staff doesn't get fired because that is all they get for replacements anyway.

So it does seem that companies are currently somewhat desperate for competent employees to the point that they will overlook flip flops.

[ - ] KyleIsThisTall 2 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 20:17:17 ago (+2/-0)

unless the applicant is White

[ - ] con77 0 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 19:54:44 ago (+0/-0)

Publix is amazing

[ - ] mannerbund 5 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 19:32:41 ago (+5/-0)

To be honest, as long as you don't look like a slob, I don't much mind the style of attire. Shorts, flip flops and a button up? Sure thing.

It depends on the job and work for sure, and in tech I'm happy my team has pants and isn't wearing thigh high socks.

[ - ] Cantaloupe 1 point 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 19:43:06 ago (+1/-0)*

Florida is too fucking hot for socks.

Would interview candidates in the water.

Some wear Florida Crocs

If you want a degree just get a job and then go get a degree.

We had a young lady come in for an interview in cut off jean shorts and a short shirt with her midriff showing. At first we were like “hell no”, but conducted the interview anyway. Turns out she’s very intelligent and personable. We hired her on the spot and informed her of the dress code and she has complied. She’s turned out to be quite impressive and a good employee. It’s only been three weeks, but we plan to pull her aside at some point and tell her to never come to an interview like that ever again, for her own good. Fact is, we know her family, but she didnt know that, but we know she comes from good stock, respected people in the community. It didn’t hurt that she’s quite attractive as well. I think she knew she rocked the shorts and shirt, but hey, whatever.

[ - ] Crackinjokes 0 points 11 monthsJun 6, 2024 23:00:39 ago (+0/-0)

Actually you are the ones behind the times.

People dress that way on purpose. They want to work on a comfortable environment.

If a company is too strict about silly things then it's a good way to flesh that out ..no pun intended.

[ - ] yesiknow 2 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 02:46:24 ago (+2/-0)

That's the lack of respect for the hierarchy built into schools after the 1980's. They can't take direction and want to know why they should do anything. It's also why people punch bus drivers. They think they're equal.

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 21:38:48 ago (+0/-0)

Yeah, no, we just can’t have trashy looking people in a company that sells high end stuff to a millionaire clientele.

[ - ] Laputois 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 08:50:28 ago (+0/-0)

Why would you hire a woman?

[ - ] TheOriginal1Icemonkey 0 points 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 10:12:11 ago (+0/-0)

Why would I work at a sausage party everyday?

[ - ] ButtToucha9000 1 point 11 monthsJun 7, 2024 00:14:17 ago (+1/-0)
