Part of the threat is travel time and detection. ICBMs hit space and are easy to pick up on radar and identify with specific flight characteristics.

Imagine a low level missile capable of 1000km in Cuba that can't be detected on launch or most of the flight.

Pretty much just a continuation of Russia vs. US bullshit. The security competition aspect even transcends the ideological. In the Vietnam War you had US hawks bitching that we weren't mining Haiphong Harbor to stop Soviet ships from supplying weapons to the Vietnamese Communists. Now our government has rejected the fighting-with-one-hand-behind-our-backs approach by hitting Russia more or less directly. The fear then as now is the same: Russia strikes back a/o nuclear war. Same deal in part with hitting China in Korea and Vietnam.

Maybe the real story is that things have deteriorated so much in the US that we see things like a John Bircher kid like me siding with Russia. The JBS STILL hates Russia, mind.

No. Robert Welch rejected anti-Semitism. A big reason why guys like Tom Metzger, William Pierce, or most notably Revilo Oliver didn't stick around long. Oliver was even one of the founders of the JBS. He wrote a number of screeds attacking 'Robert the welcher'.

America's enemies wouldn't attack openly anyways because America would counter attack 10x harder. That is why countries like China turn to more subversive methods.
