There's a big problem with most handgun ammo in that you ideally want a single round to consistently knock down an assailant, and most of them simply won't do it. There are two possible solutions, one of which is to go with a really high power round, and the other is to plan to fire multiple rounds. (.45 ACP will knock someone down more often than a 9mm round, but not as often as two.) But ideally, you want to carry as heavy a pistol as you can comfortably utilize, and that you can effectively carry concealed. (And yes, I advocate always carrying concealed.)

I'm a big guy, and I can carry a full-sized pistol without printing, so I'm able to carry best mm.

Disagree and I will elaborate as to why.

You can argue about the capacity but I see it as more about weight and handling. With modern striker fire pistols and just the degree of machine tooling today you will be far greater likelihood to hit the target with a glock 17 (9mm) as you would a glock 20 (10mm) and the Glock 21 (45acp) but you have more quarters to expel from the muzzle.

9mm monolithic hollows are far better ballistics for self defense as they often remain in the target, or exit without velocity.

Added that I would rather put 17 holes in a fucker as fast as I can than I would 8 from a 1911 or a few more. Then you have cost. Currently PSA has MHP 9mm for 7 bucks a box, and shipping is free with 10 or more boxes.

Need to train with it to trust it.

As I said, I'm a big guy and fairly strong, so I can operate a poly frame 10mm auto about as easily and rapidly as a 9mm. If you have issues with proficiency with something heavier than 9mm, then by all means use 9mm.

I can also handle a .44 DE pretty well, but it's tough to keep that from printing. :-D

I bought a .44 barrel for my DE, and a .357 barrel and bolt. .44 is surprisingly comfy to fire in such a heavy pistol.

.357, on the other hand, feels a lot like firing a .22, lol.
