when you leave your windows 11 pc on hibernate thinking you will open back to all your windows only to find it updating and restarting upon boot making you lose all your windows and progress

Win key, type CMD, right-click to run as Administrator, type powercfg /h off.

It will default to Modern Standby which is absolute shit and drains your battery, but your windows will remain as they were. On some machines, you can use a third-party utility to access hidden BIOS settings which will allow you to configure your machine to use S3 rather than Modern Standby. S3, what we used to use, is an excellent compromise between Modern Standby and hibernation.

Not all machines are compatible, and I'm not sure how smart Windows is at determining that. It may wind up powering down all the way on you.

Windows 10 convinced me to finally jump ship to Linux. Windows 11 made me so, so glad I did.

I always lose my desktop on linux. As in it won't boot up because of some stupid error. Either that or the fucking updates won't update. I spent way too many hours trying to fix linux to do simple easy tasks. All that plus every tutorial on linux assumes you know linux and they leave out all the important info. I'd love it it the damn OS worked but every single time it jews me.
