He does the electronics on my broken antiques as a hobby. We can maybe restore shit here and there but that doesn't sound worth paying for shop space

Disassembling and selling parts is pretty hot right now. Dealers are charging crazy prices for machinery parts so the used market is booming.

A business is little more than insurance, a business license, and a legal entity for the IRS so that you can take tax deductions.

Sounds like he wants something to fill his time. First thing I can think of would be to vend hotdogs. Just need to check the County Health Department website and figure out the needs for a basic food permit. Need to prepare and keep your food in a commissary kitchen.

Churches will often have licensed commercial kitchens and will allow you to rent space for cheap. Don’t need fancy equipment: Just a folding table, umbrella, and a way to serve the food. Then establish an agreement with a local business do you can have a location on private property with lots of foot traffic.

Heck, you can even source antique restaurant equipment.

Build things that most people use. Common sense stuff. Make a toilet paper roll that says "you're awesome haha" in PeeWee Hermans voice everytime you spin it. I'd buy that. Or make a kitchen garbage can that says "take the fuckin garbage out, you lazy prick" in Clint Eastwoods voice. Or make a hummingbird feeder that says "get da fuck outta here" in Joe Pesci's voice every time a hummingbird comes near it.

A lot of electronics from the 70s and 80s have stopped working due to leaking capacitors. Radios, Hifi equipment, laserdisc players, etc. Replacing the caps in such devices restores their value. You could look into something like that…
