Conservative Christians believe the Abrahamic Covenant is a literal covenant between God and man in that Abraham's biological descendants (Hebrews) will have land (Israel), be numerous, and be blessed.
The problem is that they also believe that the modern Ashkenazi Jew is a biological dependent of Abraham ... And, it follows they believe that the modern nation of Israel is a continuation of the Davidic kingdom and thereby is a fulfillment of the Abrahamic covenant.
As such, they see the modern state of Israel = God's appointed kingdom. This results in cognitive dissonance when they see Israel carpet bomb children ... they can't deal with the incongruity in their beliefs ... so they just shut down.
