Video 8 by Sony is the proof that Big Tech are idiots

submitted by Conspirologist to technology 11 monthsMay 24, 2024 09:39:22 ago (+1/-1)     (technology)

In the XX century there were many video cassette formats.

The most popular three were:

Video 2000 by Philips.

Betamax by Sony.

VHS by JVC.

All three had bad resolution and were huge. Also, the Video 2000 by Philips was the most retarded video cassette, because you had to switch sides to watch movies, like with music cassettes.

Sony invented a perfect video cassette, Video 8. It was of the small size like music cassettes and had better video resolution than anybody else.

Guess what? The Big Tech companies voted for VHS by JVC to become the standard video cassette instead of the Video 8 by Sony for no technical reason. They did it just because.

I remember those laser discs were as big as a small table. Good luck using those in a walkman or car entertainment system lol.

They eventually reappeared as the DVD and then the double-layer Blu-ray. The funny thing about those glossy Blu-ray ads and the immediate need to switch everything over to them: They were so crisp and sharp on DVD. Which meant the DVD's crappy picture quality wasn't the technology lacking, it was disk encoding by the movie companies. They intentionally released low quality products to trick the public into buying everything again.

Another trick was those difficult to use stiff jewel cases which were designed the break the disk if you weren't careful.

That's right. DVD to BluRay switch was unnecessary. But they didn't switch to Video 8 by Sony when it was really needed.

It's a myth from Wikipedia. Big Tech just doesn't care about improving technology.

Well tbh I am glad that old stuff is around, every "improvement" is just a step towards controling you and your data.

That's right. Every device connected to internet is controlling you.

Well, remote management engines on top of CPUs are pretty terrifying....

Cameras went to high eight pretty quickly which was high enough resolution that it exceeded the television standard at the time. In fact the first Gulf War covered by CNN was filmed with high cameras in the field.

I thought Sony had high licensing fees and JVC's VHS had much lower fees. I thought that was the whole thing....money.

No. It was all about bribes. Anybody tech savvy knows that Video 8 was the only perfect video cassette format.

We could've been using memory cards back then but the jews will ride tech to the very end and keep newer stuff from coming out.

That's right. They used to sell ball mouses when laser mouses were available.
