When I was working underground as a "Hard Rock" miner I was in training for Blaster, 2nd year (79) we were introduced to SEMTEX BOOSTER putty, looked like bubble gum and could be molded to form which we shaped into a rolled cylindrical plug maybe 1" long and half dia which the blast cap pokes into, it added extra punch into detonation with no misfires, nobody likes to deal with misfires because technically the charge still has potential, that's when the "shot bags" (little burlap bags with up to 5lbs AMEX or NILITE) are placed on or near the misfire with large "MUCK" (big big rocks) placed in perimeter so as to direct the blast energy down or inwards so as to hopefully activate the misfire...but SEMTEX is available as is "Compound 4"(C4), anyone with contacts to blast contractors can "take it from there"...I've got a jug of "tannerite", which is interesting stuff but basically thermite is just rust and aluminum powder activated with magnesium strip, it's used in certain railroad applications and is easy to make...I was told that thermite will work in water provided it's sealed and the detonation process is initiated when the airtight container is turned upside down, the container can be a thermos, so im told, I've never worked with it.
