Sunday morning: normies are at the beach, as I just finished a smol tile repair job. Labor $160 + $24.59 for grout. This cocksucker writes me a check for exactly $184.59. What, you can't give me 41 fuckin cents??? Or straight-up 200 bux?? I was on time 3 days in a row, and cleaned up perfectly.

It's a TWO MILLION DOLLAR HOUSE. I hope the next hurricane sends it to Jamaica. If he calls for more work, the new rate is 70 per hour.

That's how Jorge gets the job. I know what I'm doing, and the competition never sleeps. Get your foot in the door, be quick and clean, and they will call back for more work, sometimes years later. They will tell their neighbors too. To date I have worked on 4 houses for over a year...they all started as small jobs, and it snowballed.

You think it takes 3 days to grout tile? I took down a 12 foot tall column of tile that was nearly falling off the wall, due to a shitty tile job 10 years ago. Took them home, scraped them, primered the wall, re-set them, then grouted. My usual impeccable work, left the place spotless, and this rich cocksucker can't round up the check FORTY ONE CENTS. $70/hr is too cheap. My callout rate is $200/hr plus milage. $50/hr surcharge for weekends and $100/hr for nights. Granted this is heavy equipment repair but still everyone should ask more. If you've got a good reputation you can bill a little higher than everyone else.

You need to believe in yourself a little more. If you're good at what you do and show up professionally and with a good demeanor/appearance, you can charge top dollar. Life actually became much easier for me once I started believing in myself and started becoming a premium service. The caveat here is you need to already have an established reputation as always getting the job done no matter what and having no callbacks because something was screwed up.

Yes you're correct. You can't reply on the random generosity of others. Pricing jobs correctly and charging the correct labor rate is a skill. Rarely will you get turned away for being expensive unless the service is not a good value.
