This is in Framing 101, chpt 3, sheeting each level needs to be complete before going up.
At least there weren't workers inside.

[ - ] o0shad0o 7 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:16:05 ago (+7/-0)

That shouldn't have happened even with appropriate cross-bracing. And I'm surprised the whole thing wasn't wobbling when the framers were walking the roof.

[ - ] germ22 8 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:26:38 ago (+8/-0)

A few 2 by 4's is not enough for cross bracing.

[ - ] MayhemInChief 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 10:59:50 ago (+1/-0)

Temporary cross-bracing is little more than a strong apprentice and its main purpose is so the apprentice can hold the next wall.

Not sure what part of the world this was in, but seismic requirements where I am say you can't rely on sheathing for shear.

Tree houses for example.

Experience level 9 year old me.

I was thinking the same shit- how did these dumbasses not notice the structure was unstable while they were building it? I've only got 2 years of construction experience, and that was a while ago, but I learned that the men who build things tend to be pretty smart. The crew I worked with was meticulous (and White).

[ - ] Sector2 3 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:18:10 ago (+3/-0)

My designated crew name was Mr. Meticulous. We framed and squared to within 1/8".

[ - ] Dingo 2 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 15:46:58 ago (+2/-0)

within 1/8"

This is pretty damn good if you're framing with wood and is a strong metric in your favor. For the rest of us, we go with the fact that "wood is more forgiving".

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:28:29 ago (+0/-0)*

He's full of shit, most carpenters can't frame within 1/2" square per level/wall. I'm a sparky, and I know because conduit matters more than walls and floors when it comes to being precise.

[ - ] PeckerwoodPerry 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 04:52:04 ago (+0/-0)

Hey, I've been wondering about something and it seems you would know. Why are all electricians cunts, and why do they always leave their mess for someone else to clean up?

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 21, 2024 11:06:52 ago (+0/-0)

Haha, I've encountered dickheads from all trades, but many electricians think they are hot sheit because of a how technical our trade is. All trades have lots of technical knowledge that's the basis of the job, but since electrical is the newest and most constantly expanding it does allow for those who are egotistical to expose themselves.

Troubleshooting is where the really smart guys work in the electrical industry, as even labourers can learn to run conduit and dig trenches. I love working single line and gear best as one needs to be precise on where equipment is located and how it's secured, but I'm decent at troubleshooting as well.

As for the mess/trash that's a lazy apprentice working under a bad foreman.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 1 point 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:30:56 ago (+1/-0)

If your serious I want you to come build a two car garage for me this summer, but I think you're FoS and I've known a few good carpenters.

[ - ] Sector2 1 point 1 yearMay 20, 2024 03:19:16 ago (+1/-0)

This summer isn't going to work out. That was before my first real business, in a year that ended in 88. Still did all my own building and construction though. Fun times.

[ - ] con77 3 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:28:21 ago (+3/-0)

meticulous (and White).

but mexicans work cheap!

[ - ] bonghits4jeebus 2 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 13:47:14 ago (+2/-0)

The dude that I have hire for construction is Eastern European (probably Russian, or thereabouts) , and he employs his countrymen. Way better than Mexicans. No doubt about that.

[ - ] Clubberlang 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 21:35:33 ago (+1/-0)

I've employed a slav before worked for a decent price and even went above and beyond.

[ - ] HeyJames 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 14:05:13 ago (+1/-0)

I've never been a construction professional but I've built my own shit. Seems like common sense to grab onto something and shake it as you go to test for stability. That's my test for stability lol

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 21:33:58 ago (+0/-0)

The crew I worked with was meticulous (and White).

And there's the rub.

[ - ] con77 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:27:08 ago (+1/-0)

it was

[ - ] Dingo 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 15:44:11 ago (+0/-0)

appropriate cross-bracing

I just looked again and saw the one cross-beam buckle and fail in the middle (look to the bottom right of the structure to see the failure). I agree, this should not have happened with "proper" cross bracing. The outside frames are often 2x6 in order to allow for these cross beams to be inside the ladder frame. They just had nigger level cross bracing and clearly should have used more. The good news is that most of the wood will be salvageable if you just cut off a few inches on each end.

[ - ] Dingo 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 15:36:47 ago (+0/-0)

Plus, one should always consider bracing (like inset diagonal strapping) as shown here:

https://houseinspectionhelp.com/11/images/wall-brace-in-framing.jpg

[ - ] Anus_Expander 13 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:30:01 ago (+13/-0)

Builder here--each level should have steel strap cross-bracing on all walls, and be sheathed in plywood before the next level is built. 100% the fault of the builder, not the beaners that slapped it together.

[ - ] iocane 2 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 20:29:17 ago (+2/-0)

If the beaners had any skill/experience they would have said something before continuing the build. I blame both but mostly the builder for being a DEI hire, most likely, and for hiring DEI people.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 14:17:13 ago (+0/-0)

Maybe they did say something, and were told to keep working or go home.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:33:51 ago (+0/-0)*

If the reeetards don't know how to build, then it's their fault too. They could have made guacamole if they were inside it when it fell. I hope you don't actually work on construction sites, as your liable to get someone hurt with your ineptitude.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever -1 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:36:39 ago (+0/-1)

FYI the beamers were the 'builders', and your shitdick company employed them.

[ - ] Anus_Expander 1 point 1 yearMay 20, 2024 14:12:45 ago (+1/-0)

I have never hired a non-White, faggot

[ - ] Breeder 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 22:05:21 ago (+0/-0)

White framer here...much love.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 21, 2024 10:56:50 ago (+0/-0)

You referred to beaner assemblers, so I was expanding on that, don't get so bent outta shape. Thanks for only hiring competent people. May your business thrive.

[ - ] 2plus2equals5 6 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:14:08 ago (+6/-0)

Hmm, that did not collapse at the speed of gravity.

[ - ] Prairie 6 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 10:00:43 ago (+6/-0)

1WTC and 2WTC weren't built out of 2x4s, which are stronger than steel beams.

[ - ] LostWhale 3 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 10:25:29 ago (+3/-0)

It also didn't fall straight down did it?

Because it didn't have aviation fuel spill down the elevator shafts ....

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 21:37:27 ago (+0/-0)

You mean JP8?

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:39:32 ago (+0/-0)

Jet-A, but that's being pedantic.

[ - ] Rebooted 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 13:32:46 ago (+1/-0)

Yup, because the connections between members failed here. During 9/11 the vertical members disintegrated simultaneously for every single story. Really amazing that the fire (?) heated each member equally during that time. No differential in heat distribution, no sagging, no independent breaks or failures. Truly an engineering marvel.

[ - ] CoronaHoax 2 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:41:13 ago (+2/-0)

After all their free government benefits and no income tax they probably work for more

[ - ] Master_Foo 4 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:41:44 ago (+4/-0)

The nailing was probably fine.
The structure wasn't reinforced with plywood walls, which would have prevented it from swaying laterally.

Who was the retard that allowed a second floor to go up before being reinforced?
The contractor AND the inspector need to be hanged.

[ - ] CHIRO 4 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:32:03 ago (+4/-0)

Ohhh mahhh gawd, lordy Jesus, Lorraine!

I saw this a couple days ago and talked about it with some of my old buddies I used to build houses with. Pure fucking idiocy

[ - ] Breeder 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 22:04:19 ago (+0/-0)

Ive always sheethed and papers walls on the ground. So much easier than doing it after the walls are stood. In this case, i bet the crew was all Mexican and these retards thought they were gonna save a few bucks but now they need to pay White men to fix it. Ive seen it countless times and its pathetic how they try to fuck thr White crew because now theyre under budget.

[ - ] clymer 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 15:53:03 ago (+1/-0)

I worked on a framing crew for 10 years. Never have I seen a house with all three levels stick framed with no sheathing to both square up the walls and provide lateral rigidity to the structure. I mean shit, back in the 80's we were using the metal strip wind-bracing on walls we couldn't sheath before we stood them up. what a cob job

[ - ] fritz_maurentod 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:41:27 ago (+1/-0)

Perhaps it was just the beginning of a Jewish dance festival.

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 21:39:08 ago (+0/-0)

I didn't see a basement tho.

[ - ] CoronaHoax 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:22:39 ago (+1/-0)

I mean that could have happened after it was finished no?

[ - ] Prairie 10 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 10:02:12 ago (+10/-0)

Ever put together one of those cheap bookcases? The back panel, even though it's just thick cardboard, is essential to its strength. Without that it's just parallelograms, which don't inherently hold their shape.

[ - ] rzr97 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:00:18 ago (+1/-0)

It just seems like it should be more than that. I'm no architect or builder but it would seem the plywood would also contribute to more wind force against the building despite the strength it adds.

I don't think this should be possible by design of the frame alone somehow if done right. Makes me nervous about even going in modern structures.

[ - ] Fishsticksforever 0 points 1 yearMay 20, 2024 01:42:51 ago (+0/-0)

Without secured, cross bracing it's all fucking toothpicks and cards.

[ - ] JoesLegHair 1 point 1 yearMay 19, 2024 09:24:59 ago (+1/-0)

Plywood sheeting on the walls should have added sheer strength, then again it would have also added to the wind load.

[ - ] FluffyBunnySlippers 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 13:06:33 ago (+0/-0)

The guy that compared it to the bookcase is spot on im illustrating just how much force even cardboard can withstand to a parallelogram .The force of the wind is negligible to the bracing force of plywood

I'm guessing the poos are building houses now because they just can't find Mexicans to do the work?

[ - ] Clubberlang 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 21:30:04 ago (+0/-0)

That's at least a million dollars in wood.

A wee matchbox house fell down, time to start again... many treat their jobs like a mindless past time and being meticulous is all but lost.

[ - ] Monica 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 12:44:51 ago (+0/-0)

Looks like they used nine inch nails.

[ - ] GroundskeeperWillie 0 points 1 yearMay 19, 2024 10:41:38 ago (+0/-0)

They pushed it over with a fucking front end loader you can almost see before the video was cut. Probably didnt get paid, so oopsie daisy. edit: ok maybe that was a different video similar to this i didnt notice how windy it was, yeah thats some toothpick construction in that case.
