Visible by Verizon blocks catbox and fix using 1.1.1.1 by Cloudflare

submitted by bobdole9 to technology 1 weekMay 7, 2024 09:33:22 ago (+11/-0)     (technology)

I've upgraded my sailfoam and wanted to give Visible by Verizon a shot. It's Verizon, just without stores and humans to talk, just online chat.

This phone can hold two SIMs, so I can maintain my regular carrier and Visible at the same time. Visible's one drawback is that they block catbox.moe...neither Xfinity nor T-Mobile block catbox. Although the 15 day card-free trial of the network is pretty sweet.

Since I'm a luddite, I discovered 1.1.1.1 is an app that runs a VPN on the phone (or some such technological loophole). While running that, using SIM data from Visible, I can get catbox to work just fine.

Again, luddite here...blackpill me on 1.1.1.1 by Cloudflare or Visible by Verizon.

It is not just Verizon without stores. Their networking is shared with second tier ISPs so if you are deemed to be using too much data you are passed on to another in-group ISP and sime of them suck, but you can get assigned a potentially other one by putting your phone in airplane mode for about a minute.

Anyway, Cloudflare blocks most archive.today domains.

Use OpenDNS instead.

Android: Network & Internet > Private DNS

dns.opendns.com
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220

Proper blackpill and alternative, thank you. Does OpenDNS block anything? Seems allAheadFull states the FamilySafe option blocks a lot...which makes sense for kids.

Might keep Visible as a low-cost business line option. I'll need to see if the $45 plan keeps you on better offload options.

The 1.1.1.1 app appears to just change the DNS server that the phone uses. Some DNS servers, like the OpenDNS FamilySafe option block a lot of content. I assume your provider has a blocklist on some domains, and changing the resolver allows you to get around it.

The app will log every website you visit.

Reminder that CloudFlare knocks sites offline when the owner gets his knickers in a twist.

I use visible and have no problems viewing cat box

Do you use a physical SIM or an eSIM? I'm using the trial with an eSIM...not sure if that's a possible issue.

Screenshot that catbox responds with without 1.1.1.1

I'm using a physical SIM, could be part of the issue but hard to say

Verizon is blocking catbox for me also.
It was recent they did it, last month perhaps.

Catbox is frequently blocked by DNS servers. I often have to run a vpn to get it to load.

I have a Verizon hotspot that blocks catbox. Pretty annoying. Didn’t know the 1.1.1.1 workaround, I’ll check it out.

Cloudflare is like 80% of the normal internet. Catbox being shitty could be a thing as part of what visible routes as slow traffic and their DNS drops you while Cloudflare being based doesn't give a shit.
