A very old friend of mine was a pastor for the UM church. He eventually retired when he began to see the division in the UM church, the traditionalists versus the progressives.
On one side were those who were against female pastors and faggots in the church in any way, whether members of the church or members of the clergy, and the other were those who wanted to incorporate non-biblical and extraneous beliefs into the church, such as supporting faggots and racial equality.
My friend was outspoken about which side he supported and he became very unpopular as a result. He got out with his pension just in time.
