The second amendment isn't even to grant us anything. Like others, it puts (written) LIMITS on the federal government. It's not saying that we can do this, it's saying that they shall not infringe on this.

And yeah, the only reason it's necessary is because cancerous government will try to suppress the ability of citizens to stop it from growing out of control. The government doesn't care about you defending yourself from niggers or home invaders, as that doesn't threaten their power, It's not there to preserve your right to defend from non-government, it's to slow/delay encroachment on being able to defend from government (and put a clear line that when they cross it, IT IS ABSOLUTELY TO BE TYRANTS).

LPT the second amendment was written to keep guns out of the hands of the government. Or really as a consequence that they thought the federal government would not have a professional army and that if it needed guns it should have to obtain them by the grace of the people sharing their guns.

Not only should you have the weapons the government has... you should have more and they should beg you for access. That's what the second amendment was describing.
