It's what happens when any aristocracy becomes too disassociated from the populace they rule. They are surrounded by yes men, their crimes insulated from law, their every whim seen too behind the scenes to such a degree that they live in a complete fantasy world.
What a shock then, when something doesn't go the way they want, what shock when one of the cattle stands up and says "no more". Bizarre indeed when reality shows itself to be something completely different from everything they've known.
And these people are merely higher foot soldiers to the truly evil beings among us. For them, these are merely delaying tactics as they loot and scoot.
