There was no MSDOS 4.0
Only IBM PC-DOS 4.O

If you are a programmer, behold the most retarded code ever

There was a reason why they jumped from 3.30 to 5.

source code and GREAT pdfs :

https://github.com/microsoft/MS-DOS

In 1990 the expensive but AMAZING "DR DOS" did real low level (network, printer, server ) MULTITASKING and was NON-BUGGY

This turd posted is not priceless, and is buggy, unlike DR DOS :

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DR-DOS

= = = =

uses of this source = newer, and shows changes for MS-DOS in Windows 3

= = = =

I had hoped it had the HIMEM.SYS module !!!! It does not have source for the juicy version of himem.sys May 1990, I think.

I have had real source to almost ALL of Windows, and several other OSses, but as one who manually dissassembled HIMEM.SYS , I wanted to see reason other than interrupt-off avoidance for comically bad context switching code written in C instead of assembler. Even now many decades later, I desire answers.

HIMEM.SYS is a DOS device driver which allows DOS programs to store data in extended memory according to the Extended Memory Specification (XMS). The memory beyond the first 1 MB of address space is required by Windows 9x/Me in order to load; therefore, these versions of Microsoft Windows require HIMEM.SYS

DR DOS is so cool, it made Microsoft look like chin tapping drooling retards, but I think all their best coders had moved to MS Windows by then

If you are a programmer, behold the most retarded code ever

I am mainly not a programmer, but biomed, but Im elite enough to know you are right! But it has VALUABLE PDFS!!!

I suspect really weird stuff like himems code was because of legal/patent/licensing issues.

I would have to see exactly how they wrote context switch. I've seen compiler that had intrinsics for backing up registers and stuff.

Every once in a while I find a post that makes me wonder if my boss goes to the same anonymous forums I do.
This is one of those posts.

Statute of limitations for the murder of Gary Kildall run out?

It warms my heart that some people still remember this guy.

What a tragic story.

I remember that name.

Could you please give me a brief recap?

[ - ] MasterSuppressionTechnique 5 points 2 weeksApr 28, 2024 18:32:08 ago (+6/-1)

CIA stole his operating system to make IBM viable and then killed him by hitting him over the head and shooting him with a heart attack gun.

[ - ] AlexanderMorose13 1 point 2 weeksApr 28, 2024 19:59:05 ago (+1/-0)

Oh damn, that kind of death? He die fast or did he slowly stroke out? I'm only asking because there's a few different versions of the heart attack gun that are designed for making certain that the time of exposure can't be nailed down.

[ - ] Spaceman84 3 points 2 weeksApr 28, 2024 20:00:23 ago (+3/-0)

That guy is wrong. Microsoft did Gary dirty and later had him killed.

Only the alphabets could think up a device to cover up their own crimes.

I know. Crazy. Right?
As stupid as umbrellas with radium bb's in the freakin 1980s.
As stupid as Nikolai Tesla losing all his paperwork after death.

[ - ] Spaceman84 4 points 2 weeksApr 28, 2024 19:59:44 ago (+4/-0)

MS-DOS is actually his creation but Microsoft stole it, significantly undercut his price and later killed him because he was making too much noise about it.

It'll be interesting what chicanery they find when looking at the code (if it even is the real code).

I very much desire to know why the command dir/s/a from root fails to list directories marked +s until you first know the path. ms apologists and pr troops (and feds probably) denied index.dat was obscured on purpose. (index.dat was your complete browser history). Lied and said it was an accident, even after you cleared cache and 'temp internet files' Your fucking browser history was still remaining (and hidden amongst the directory structure, that you didnt know existed because the recursal results lied to you), and no amount of windows application button pushing changed that.

sounds analogous to the government releasing files on the JFK assassination, where you have to assume anything worth while is redacted
