What a scam these rentals were. Greedy Hertz wanted to deduct a fee for not returning the cars with a full charge. But it's not a quick trip to the filling station like with a gas car. Charging up takes hours, and if you're renting an EV you probably can't charge it at home.

The fees were necessary because "all in" Hertz didn't want to upgrade every rental counter with enough chargers to support their new EV fleet. Someone has to charge those cars, and so they tried to shift this expensive burden to the customers. The customers said not so fast. And now the plan to save this company is to sell a bunch of cars no one even wanted to rent.

I remember renting a car in the last year or so, and I was offered a "free upgrade" to an EV. No. Not having it. That's a downgrade if you ask me.
