...which is four people wide when I came across a female, maybe early 30's, with two small dogs on a stretch leash and the dogs were straying across the path as usual. I waited for a lull in the traffic so she'd hear me and "belled" her. No reaction. I got right behind her and did the same. Same response. So I said: "excuse me, Madam" and she half looked around and twittered a very unconvincing "sorry". Now I could be wrong and she doesn't associate a bell in her ear with a cyclist but I think she felt offended at being belled to shift her rather large arse (she is a female after all) and being an entitled human being she considered she deserved the human-voice touch and being belled was insulting? Oh and by the way she looked like @inaminit 's missus but I couldn't be sure.
I try to interact pleasantly with other path users. In fact too pleasantly. Instead of "belling" a drunk aborigine who was staggering along the footpath next to a busy road, I rode around him and his missus on the grass and he went ballistic about not ringing my bell and he wanted to throw me and my bike in the sea and ...it almost came to blows.
