Remington 870 Express Magnum

submitted by Rob3122 to Guns 1 weekApr 22, 2024 21:51:07 ago (+15/-0)     (Guns)

My grandmother passed away not long ago. She wanted all my grandfather's guns to go to me when she passed. Got a couple antique rifles and a couple pistols. This one seems the most modern. I was wondering if anyone knows anything about the Remington 870 Express magnum? I also have a P38 which I believe was the standard German pistol. Only thing is it came from my great grandfather who was Russian.

870s go bang every time - it's a keeper. Lots of cops carry them. They have an 870 police and an 870 wingmaster version which are near identical except for they cost more and have a few quality/reliability tweaks to smooth the action/improve reliability etc to make them stronger or more reliable. They're all great shotguns and you should practice on yours to verify it's 100%. Likely is.

P38's are sought by collectors and enthusiasts due to their historical significance and unique design features. I don't own one, but would keep it if I did.Furthermore, anything gifted via family should ALWAYS be treated like the treasure it is. Do not share that you own these with anyone. It's your grandmothers secret you share only with her, bless her soul. It's not about the money at all. Stock up on ammo as well.

Congrats on having a fantastic grandmother. She was thinking of you, and you need to think of her now. Learn how your newly gifted shit works, hone your skills via practice, and never sell or part with your heritage. Never never never and no matter what! That shit stays in your family now and gets passed down to your kids or other family.

Good to know, thanks. I'm not getting rid of any of them. The only reason I can think of to get rid of them would be money and that's just simply not a good enough reason for me. I was curious about the Remington because it was the most modern looking of the rifles. As far as Grandma goes ...she made sure I hit the jackpot because the guns aren't even the best part. She made sure that I got all his tools! My grandfather kept all his tools in amazing condition (he was 100% German) so that actually didn't surprise me. I saw the tools today for the first time in years and it honestly felt like Christmas morning.

P38’s are going for about $800 last I saw. I would love to get my hands on an all parts matching Luger though, preferably an s/42 which is Mauser. I’ve seen those go for 3-5k

Remington 870 Express

As one of, if not the most iconic pump-action shotgun of all time, the venerable 870 is tremendously popular.

They used to be well-constructed. Nowadays, less so. There's an entire aftermarket for replacing shitty plastic internals with real metal.

Depending on age/condition, it might be worth a fair bit. Personally, that would be one I'd hang on to.

Could be said of most things now.

A jew bought Remington and intentionally lowered the quality. Then they went bankrupt.

Nice! It looks like it's in great condition I mean it looks like it's brand new. That's what caught my attention because he passed away 11 years ago but my grandmother said she wasn't getting rid of any of his things until she was back with him. She stuck to her word lol. Thanks for the info.

Keep everything and don't tell anyone about them, definitely not the cops.

Keep them both. Keep all of them, whatever you received.

I have a couple 870's. Wonderful irons.
You should keep it and learn to use it.

It's badass because you can use these

Most shotguns will explode in your face if you use those, but that express magnum will eat em all day. But then again you don't wanna shoot those too much. Expensive and painful.

Also kinda sad you have no idea what you're looking at. Don't sell any of those guns.

602 gr. Woof that makes my shoulder sore just thinking about it.

Carried an 18” 870 for years, great gun. If you intend to rely on it learn the slam clear technique as they can occasionally jam a shell in the feeding mechanism. Not sure i would shoot it with magnum rounds without a significant recoil pad.

I know a guy who has an 870 20 ga. Lightweight. He has an extra barrel that's shortened to 18".
It barely weighs 5 pounds with the short barrel.
