Why do I always fail at 3 months and why am I not gonna fail at 3 months this time?

All five sober times drinks had no appeal 2 months in. 10 weeks no desire. But 90 days here comes this out of nowhere drink every single time. And then I drink for 18 or 40 months straight

Force a replacement vice...usually a physical activity should help.

It truly is one day at a time. A collection of days doesn't matter. Today matters. Get a sponsor, go to meetings, read the book, help somebody, share.

Get a sponsor or something.

My last drink was Saturday. I hope to keep it going because I'm sick of it. But one day at a time.

Don't waste this opportunity. The first day is really hard and you already made it through it

Get a pint of your favorite ice cream. Keep it in the freezer and when you get that urge, eat it. The sugar will help kill the physical cravings, leaving your mind free to fight the psychological cravings.

No, the sugar bomb isn't good for you, but it's a hell of a lot better than the alternative. Eventually, the pint in the freezer will just sit there forever.

No, it’s not coming out of nowhere. You’re equating 90 days as some sort of pinnacle, like you’ve hit this huge milestone. So you want to celebrate and you have a drink because you don’t know what else to do and you perpetuate the cycle over and over. You need to classically condition yourself to celebrate with a different reward.

There is something that happened to your brain as it's repairing around month 4-5 that makes this the horrible point. It was hard for me and another friend of mine has the same exact issue.

Just push past it.

OK I will wait and look forward to this 4 month point I've never made it to. Very exciting

Suck it up,like quiting anything.
It's on you or it won't fucking work.
It's simple self control end of the day.
Many have done it and can reflect back.
Alcohol controls you when YOU let it.

It's hard to comment on your case specifically (because I don't know you AND I'm not a trained professional).

However I can say that removing the psychological imperative to drink is, in my experience, an important factor in stopping any addictive behavior including drinking.

To that end Naltrexone can be effective. Essentially it's a dopamine receptor blocker and over time reduces the physical addiction until it is no longer significant.

The downside is that you need to drink for it to work. But if you're going to drink anyways then you have nothing to lose.

Take it 30 minutes before you start drinking. And since it takes 3 days to metabolize you only need to take it at most every 3 days. If you don't drink then you don't need to take it, it's that simple.

Doctors are required to prescribe a dose every day and you can certainly follow that if you choose, it won't harm you. But it's maximally effective as long you take it at least 30 minutes before you participate in the addictive behavior ie. drinking.

And since the drug remains active in your system for 72 hours you don't need to take it any more often then every 3 days. Essentially a 1 month prescription will last 3 months (or longer) so the money saving is significant.

The other side of addiction is whatever psychological drivers you might have, and I can have no comment on those specifically. But I will say that taking a good hard look at yourself and thinking extensively about those nagging issues is a good place to start.

In essence you don't know what specifically is bothering you to the degree that it's acting as an imperative to drink -- so that you can avoid thinking about what's bothering you -- until you start thinking about those things.

It may sound goofy but if you put in the effort it will pay off, big time.

All the best.
