Also the bill of rights was an explicit choice of freedom over democracy. They decided these particular matters will not be subject to democracy because freedom is a greater value. Feedom is a value. Democracy is just an arbitrary mechanism chosen. They were inches away from making George Washington king. They weren't that settled on democracy. So no, democracy is not an American value. Freedom is. Democracy is a system of government we happen to have (retards are going to shout republic but anyone who isn't a retard knows a republic is a class of democracy. Even if you want to distinguish it is still just a system of government and not a value).

Freedom is a value. Democracy is just some shit we have to live with because some people decided its shit would be slightly less shitty that some other shit we might have to live with. And also their accounting of potential shit in different system may have used the wrong numbers. It's worth looking at.

Called it. ^ The moron who thinks republics are special instead of another breeding ground for corruption. What we are experiencing is late stage republic. It sucks doesn't it. And just like a communist who says "communism didn't starve people, we deviated from communism" people who think republics are somehow special and perfect will say we deviated from real republicanism so it's not to blame. But we didn't. We still elect people. Those elected people have a choice once in office to serve the people or themselves, all the same as any other stage of a republic. And the results are predictable.

Though it should really be titled Republic: The God that Failed because it's all about politicians which are more powerful in the republican variant of democracy, so the book is if anything more particular to the republican variant of democracy.
