I haven't been to a Goodwill store in a couple years & decided to browse around one today that's on the outskirts of the city. Big fuckin mistake. Don't know if it's because it's a Saturday or "4/20 dude weed" day but this store was PACKED. Like I kinda got disoriented watching how fast all these people were shopping like it was Black Friday. Everything in the men's section was pretty much picked over, and the ladies clothes section took up half the store. Electronics were rummaged through with shit all over the floor, toys all over the place, housewares was a complete mess, furniture was ugly and shabby - the whole store was a mess. I managed to find a small cooking pan and a few t-shirts to wear when I'm gonna get dirty. And now Goodwill charges $1 for a simple plastic bag.
What I saw today is a perfect metaphor for how bad our economy is and how much worse it's gonna get.
There was a big reddit writeup about the whole pricing too.
People seem to be "flipping" all the thrift store goods (a lot of which are donated big store throwaways), with the vintage stuff being an apparent gold mine of sorts.
Takeaway was that thrift store merchandise is way overpriced now because the thrift stores are the "middlemen" between thrown away stuff and flippers, and the (((middlemen))) need to take their huge cut.
I thought of doing that but don't have the room for all the goods nor the patience to photograph, list, then ship everything. That's a great salary for a side gig though. I may give it a second thought.
Glass is where she makes her best coin. Morono(sp) is a hand blown from Italy, she pays $3-$5 at GW then lists it with correct ID,measurements etc then fetchs $80-$200+ She has earned what's she has built. Shit part is ebay thumping her on fees and taxs. She has over 400 followers that keep sales moving. Patience Patience Patience
I see. Yeah, Murano glass is highly sought and so many family members donate deceased family members' things they have no clue the value of. I haven't been so lucky discovering treasures like that in thrift stores. :) Good for her (and you!).
I've found some "gems" at Goodwill - a few years ago I found a copy of "Razorblade Romance" from the band HER aka HIM that's apparently worth about $400 on Ebay (discogs says it's only worth about $75 which is a lie because this CD is rare - only 1,000 were made.) I still have it. https://www.discogs.com/release/4822802-HER-Razorblade-Romance
New Port Richey has a great consignment store near the tax office. Went in there today with the wife and found two antique wind up clocks, on was a decorated mantle clock for $45.00 and the other was a wall clock with a large brass pendumum for ony $29.00. Absolute steals.
Been there and bought several wonderful things in the past two years. So forget about thrift stores, try consignment shops.
Hopefully it's days are numbered, then something bigger, stronger and faster will replace it for absolute culture control of the weak faggotts already addicted public media narcotics
Why would you shop there? They are vehemently anti-white and are a business. Someone I know recently was goona take a bunch of stuff and drop off there recently and I educated them and they took it to a church instead.
I got 2 wringer washers and a set of brand new rabbit ears for my Zenith ultra floor model cabinet TV, plus they gave me a raincheck on a Panasonic VCR C/W head cleaner...all for $19.99...now I can tell Deal Dash to fuck right off
Many local Goodwill stores are franchises and are not owned by the central charity. The CEOs of the local franchises are free to pay themselves whatever they think they should get paid and often times it's well into the six figures while they're hiring retarded people or people who are just out of prison who are literally required by law to get a job to stay on parole and because they're doing that they're exempt from minimum wage laws so they can pay less than minimum wage to those people and they often do.
There was an article a few decades back about San Francisco sisters running a SalvationArmy charged with embezzling $5M. Embezzling. That's the money nobody noticed.
You got that right. I knew a woman who managed several "charity thrift stores" (not Goodwill). I don't remember all the details well enough to share here, but the Board of Directors and management were very generously compensated.
I've only dropped stuff off at Good Will after we helped a few older family members downsize.
The people running it seems decent enough. The place was frigging packed with stuff. I could see them throwing away Seasonal decorations, fake Christmas trees, and other shit like that. But not good clothing.

sorry, didnt put quotation marks.
The floor workers or excuse me " state mandated volunteers" would ask their ~supervisors~ if they could buy the items. I was just a janitor.
I did volunteer at a cancer society of America thrift store though and they were worse about throwing things away than goodwill. Smaller space so I get it but they (acs) would send donations they couldnt handle to other charity organizations.
I didnt understand that bitch at all. Anything that was torn -salvation army bucket and she would go through my sorted to go to the goodwill pile (no holes) and say "throw these away, they're ugly"
I only lasted 2 weeks. It was volunteer work, i wasnt pressed about dealing with that womans b.s. for free.
I do some resale but only expensive shit. But I don't come near making a living from goodwill. Is she doing sheer volume flipping 6 dollars into 25 over and over?
Because lol my style is flipping 5 into 100 once in awhile. Maybe I should do more volume. But damn then you have to have more storage and be around stuff you don't like.
I love goodwill, however, find a local charity or a restore for donations as honky notes below.
"July 18, 2023 - The current CEO of Goodwill makes over $1 million annually. It is unclear whether Goodwill's compensation is reflective of the charity's efforts to help the less fortunate and disadvantaged."

I got kicked out 4 years ago for wearing a backpack. I was on foot, it was winter out. I complained to corporate, why should women with purses get a free pass. Fuck the whole thing.

Goodwill already has an auction site, and I assume the good stuff goes there so bidders can jack it up.
