Exactly - for some reason when i heard that guy saying 'get the police some is about to set themself on fire' and then panned to the guy messing around with the lighter - i instantly had a thought of 'sprint in and kick the guy in the stomach and or grab the lighter'. but meh seems like that was just me.

People seem to misinterpret the bit about burns not hurting if they're hot enough. You've got it right. What it more applies to is surface burns- you put your hand on something hot enough, it could burn all of your nerves in the surface of your skin/flesh quick, so quickly you just feel one quick burn and then nothing at all.

Being cooked alive is a different thing entirely. There are nerves inside of the body, protected from direct contact with the flame, that will be sending all kinds of lovely pain signals to the brain as you writhe around in agony. Yes, he is also suffocating, but that takes some time.

If this wasn't the way it worked, then the iron bull torture device wouldn't have been effective at drawing out pained screams.

Yep, i like the way you explain it. Those deep down nerve receptors in amongst all the muscle tissue, sinew and bone are still perfectly fine - i once literally had a top of the orbital bone/ temple scrap in the hospital to take out an infection, rather than be admitted for three to four days for intravenous antibiotics, for some reason (i dont recall how or why now) it were performed without any local and they told me it was going to hurt like hell - well about 45 minutes later - after the adrenaline rush to combat the pain - man i felt totally wasted and exhausted af literally limp - the consistant continual pain of having a metal scraping tool under the skin in a wound and up against the bone scraping out infect dead tissue was just off the scales - couldn't imagine burnt alive except that pain times 1000..

Can you imagine what it feels like for your muscles to be nearly 100$ dehydrated as heat leeches all of the moisture from your body? The stiffness a burning person's body takes.. the way they often rock back and forth, a lot of burnings look very similar. They all look like they are in immense pain.

Those Buddhists who lit themselves up in protest a different breed, man. I have respect for them, to die with dignity and discipline, silently holding the lotus posture as their life leaves them. The will to do that... It is mind-blowing. Compare those guys to the two idiots who self-immolated in USA recently, who clearly immediately regret what they're doing and run off screaming. Embarrassing... and nobody will remember their names in less than six months.
