They are both nearly identical ballistics, but the 6.5 drop rate is slightly less after 200 yards. 308 is -0.8"@200, -2"@300, -4.5"@400, -7"@500

Yeah I have a PTR in 7.62x39 and 18" barrel. It is extremely accurate with wolf and wpa ammo. I love it, but the G3 platform is too old and heavy. But I do love that rifle. Out of probably 1000+ rounds I've never had a single failure. I even accidentally bought 2k rounds of corrosive spam can yugo milsurp, it shoots great, but I have to douse the thing in hoppes to stop the rust.
